Funding update November 2013

Small and Faith Fund 2013-14 Deadline 24 November Up to £7000 (partnership projects) £10,000 (consortium (3+) projects) Funding available for projects that benefit Lewisham communities. The Council is inviting applications for funding from faith and voluntary organisations. This fund will enable organisations to deliver small, one-off projects that benefit Lewisham’s communities. Priority will be given to projects that meet the themes of 'building community networks' and 'communities that care'.

Strategic Touring Programme Round 12 Deadline 29 November Projects over £10,000 are eligible for funding. Projects must take place over a maximum of three years. Grants are available to support collaboration between organisations, to encourage more people across England to experience and be inspired by the arts. Any individual or organisation can apply to the programme. Partnerships, networks and consortia can also apply

BBC Children in Need - Small Grants Programme Deadline 1 December Up to £10,000 Funding is available to organisations that are supporting children and young people of 18 years and under who are experiencing disadvantage through: Illness, distress, abuse or neglect; any kind of disability; behavioural or psychological difficulties; living in poverty or situations of deprivation.

30k bursary for emerging artists aged 18-30 Deadline 6 December Sky Arts and IdeasTap are giving away five bursaries of £30,000 each to emerging artists aged 18-30. The bursaries are designed to help talented individuals from a range of creative disciplines focus on their creative practice for a whole year. In addition to the funding, winners are paired with creative and business mentors to support their development.

Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Foundation (UK) Deadline 6 December The Foundation supports projects in children’s hospitals and hospices throughout the UK to enrich and enhance the lives of patients. Projects that could be considered by the Foundation include amongst others: arts, music, play and leisure programmes.

Vulnerable and Disengaged Young People Fund Deadline 6 December 20 Between £30,000 and £250,000 Grants are available for social action projects that will improve outcomes for vulnerable young people including young offenders, young people in care or leaving care, and other groups of disengaged and vulnerable young people.

Wingate Foundation - Performing Arts Grant (UK) Deadline 9 December The Wingate Foundation has announced that its Performing Arts (excluding music) grants programme is open for applications. Particular emphasis is given on providing financial support for not-for-profit companies with a record of artistic excellence that require additional funding, not available from public sources or commercial sponsorship, to broaden their repertoire or develop work of potentially outstanding interest which cannot be funded from usual sources..

Wingate Foundation Music Grants Programme (UK) Deadline 9 December The programme supports those areas of music performance and education which do not readily attract backing from commercial sponsors or other funding bodies, or which are not eligible for public funding. Priority will be given to those organisations which give opportunities to young professionals and to education projects for young people as well as for new adult audiences.

Government Launches £1 Million Sector Mentoring Challenge Fund (UK) Deadline 11 December Up to £150,000 The Government has announced the launch of a new £1 million fund to enable small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to benefit from support and advice from experienced business people in their own field of work.

Heritage Enterprise Programme (UK) Deadline 13 December Between £100,000 and under £2 million; and grants of between £2million and £5million The Heritage Lottery Fund has announced that its £125 million Heritage Enterprise grants programme is open for applications. The scheme aims to support not-for-profit organisations to help them work in partnership with the private sector in the restoration of unused historic building and sites and unlock their economic potential.

Deptford Challenge Trust - Strategic Grants Deadline 13 December Between £5,000 and £30,000 Grants are available to voluntary and community organisations in Deptford undertaking charitable initiatives to improve the quality of life for people living and working in Deptford.

Arts Council England Small Capital Grants (England) Deadline 19 December From £100,000 to £499,999 Grants are to support capital expenditure to improve existing facilities that engage people in arts activities in England and/or for artists and others who work in the arts. This can include projects which will extend a current arts building, convert an existing building for arts purposes or construct a new arts building if your Arts Council area office provides their written agreement beforehand. Organisations must be in receipt of National portfolio funding for 2013/14. If not, organisations can only apply if they are properly constituted as an organisation and their Arts Council area office agrees to this beforehand in writing.

Digital R&D Fund for the Arts (England) Up to £125,000 Rolling basis until 30 December 2013 NESTA, the UK’s Innovation Foundation, has announced the launch of a new £7 million Digital R&D Fund for the Arts. Grants are for collaborative partnerships between arts organisations, technology providers and researchers.

Fuserna Foundation (England & Wales) Deadline 31 December Between £1,000 to £6,500 The Foundation supports registered charities that have difficulty raising funds due to the lack of cash reserves, statutory funding or good contacts and patrons to assist them; projects that alleviate poverty and financial hardship; relieve sickness and poor health; and also support certain “unpopular” causes.

Baily Thomas Charitable Fund (UK) Deadline 1 January (for research), 13 January (general funding) Between £100 to £150,000 A registered charity established to support projects in the area of learning disability and to aid the care and relief of those affected by learning disability by making grants to voluntary organisations within the UK and the Republic of Ireland working in this field. The Trust consider under learning disability the conditions generally referred to as severe learning difficulties, together with autism. In this area, they consider projects concerning children or adults.

Free Trees for School, Community and Youth Groups (UK) Deadline 9 January School, community and youth groups that wish to improve their local community have the opportunity to apply for one of 3000 free tree packs. The Free Tree Packs which are provided by the Woodland Trust are worth £ 30, £105 or £420. All applicants need to do is find a suitable site and supply the volunteer planters and tree protection. Pre-school, school, college and university groups interested in a small pack of 30 trees should head straight over to the school pack.

Growing Localities Awards 2013/2014 Deadline 24 January Lemos&Crane working with City Bridge Trust have launched an enhanced version of the scheme. A total of £2,500 prize money is being offered to projects which use nature to enhance and improve local communities and the lives of vulnerable or socially excluded people, generating positive outcomes such as health and well-being, new skills and knowledge, new relationships, and a sense of purpose and belonging.

The British Film Institute – Film Fund (UK) Deadline 24 January The British Film Institute Film Fund is open to applications. Through the fund a total of £18 million a year is available for filmmakers in the UK who are emerging or world class and capable of creating distinctive and entertaining work.

The Momentum Music Fund - Funding for Artists and Bands (England) Deadline 24 January Between £5,000 and £15,000 PRS for Music Foundation and Arts Council England's £500,000 fund to develop the careers of talented artists and bands. It is anticipated that grants of between £5,000 and £15,000 will be awarded to between 50 and 75 artists/bands over the next 2 years.

The Fidelio Trust Grants Programme (UK) Deadline 1 February 2014 Up to £5,000 The Fidelio Trust offers grants in support of the Arts, in particular the dramatic and operatic arts, music, speech and dance. The Trustees aim to help individuals and groups such as Colleges, Arts Festivals and other arts organisations who would not be able to carry out a project or activity without financial support.

Funding for Schools to Purchase Musical Equipment (UK) Deadline 5 February 2014 Up to £2,000 Schools in the UK, that wish to purchase musical instruments and equipment can apply for funding of up to £2,000 through the EMI Music Sound Foundation’s Instrument and/or Equipment Awards. The funding has to be made for music education that is beyond statutory national curriculum music teaching.

Artists International Development Fund (England) Deadline 7 February 2014 Between £1,000 and £5,000 The Arts Council England offers grants to individual freelance and self-employed artists based in England to build links with artists, organisations and/or creative producers in another country. The fund is open to individual artists, including creative producers, curators and editors.

Idlewild Trust (UK) Deadline 26 February 2014 The Idlewild Trust is a grant making trust that supports registered charities concerned with the encouragement of the performing and fine arts and crafts, the advancement of education within the arts and the preservation for the benefit of the public of lands, buildings and other objects of beauty or historic interest in the United Kingdom.

Funding for Youth Music Making Activities (England) Re-opens February 2014; deadline April 2014 Up to £250,000 Youth Music makes grants to support projects that provide music-making activities for children and young people, especially those young people in challenging circumstances. Youth Music will fund non profit-making organisations committed to music-making activities for children and young people up to 18 (or up to 25 if they have special educational needs, disabilities or are in detention).

The Skinners’ Company Lady Neville Charity (UK) Deadline 7 March Between £500 and £1,000 Open to small charities and not for profit organisations working in the areas of local heritage and the performing and visual arts. For items of non-recurring expenditure (eg, equipment, an event, a particular element of capital building works). Awards for Young Musicians (UK) Deadline 21 March 2014 Between £200 and £2,000 Grants are available to give talented 5-17 year olds the opportunity to experience high-quality music tuition or contribute towards their musical life. The grants are especially focused on young musicians who struggle with the cost of music education.

Funding for Youth Music Making Activities (England) Deadline April 2014 Up to £250,000 Youth Music, England's largest children's music charity, has announced that its grant making programme will re-open for applications in February 2014. Through its funding programme, Youth Music support projects that provide music-making activities for children and young people, especially those young people in challenging circumstances.

New Grant to Mark the Centenary of WW I (UK) First World War: then and now is a rolling programme Between £3,000 and £10,000 The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has announced a new £6million small grants programme to help communities mark the Centenary of the First World War. First World War: then and now, will see £1million available per year for six years until 2019 via small grants ranging from £3,000 to £10,000. The awards will enable communities to conserve and share their First World War heritage and develop projects that improve understanding of the conflict. The grant will focus on: • The identification, recording and preservation of local heritage • The creation of community archives or collections • Exhibitions, trails, smartphone apps and creative material such as plays and music based on heritage sources, the idea is to create an enduring cultural and educational legacy for communities.

HLF - Our Heritage Grants of between £10,000 and £100,000 Rolling programme Funding is available for projects that make a lasting difference for heritage, people and communities in the UK. The term 'heritage' refers to different things from the past that are valued and should be passed on to future generations and includes cultural traditions such as stories, festivals, crafts, music, dance and costumes.

Theatres Protection Fund (UK) Applications can be submitted at any time Up to £5,000 The Theatre Trust has announced that it is seeking applications through its Theatres Protection Fund for projects that address urgent building repairs, improve operational viability, introduce environmental improvements and which enhance physical accessibility. To be eligible, applicants have to own or manage theatres with titles or signed leases of more than 5 years on buildings.

Disabled People's User-Led Organisations (DPULO) Programme- Facilitation Fund Up to £30,000 - no minimum The Disabled People's User-Led Organisations (DPULO) Facilitation Fund’s aim is to provide financial support to DPULOs that they otherwise could not easily secure.

Co-operative Membership Community Fund Grants between £100 and £2,000 The Fund provides grants to voluntary groups, community groups and local charities throughout the UK.

Paul Hamlyn Foundation Arts Programme The Foundation is currently accepting applications under its Arts Open Grants Programme from formally constituted groups.

Wakeham Trust Grants between £75 to £750 Groups of individuals as well as small community and voluntary groups within the UK that want to improve their communities can apply for funding through The Trust. They are particularly interested in supporting community arts projects as well as other neighbourhood and community projects. Applications can be made at any time. The Steel Charitable Trust Grants Grants of between £1,000 and £25,000 Applications can be made at any time. The Steel Charitable Trust is a grant-making trust supporting general charitable purposes. Grants are made to registered charities in the UK within the areas of arts and culture.

Garfield Weston Foundation The Garfield Weston Foundation makes around 1,500 one-off grants per year across the UK. Its priority areas include the arts, community, education, welfare, medical, youth, religion and environment.

Investment and contract readiness fund The £10m three year Investment and Contract Readiness Fund on behalf of the Office for Civil Society is open. The Fund will support social ventures to build their capacity to be able to receive investment and bid for public service contracts. Grants between £50,000 and £150,000 will be available on a rolling basis to ambitious social ventures who will go on to raise at least £500,000 investment, or who want to bid for contracts over £1 million. The Fund is currently only open to mutuals but will fully re-open in January.

Foyle Foundation Small Grants Programme Small charities operating in the areas of the arts and learning that have an annual turnover of less than £100,000 per annum can apply for funding of between £1,000 and £10,000 through the Foyle Foundation’s Small Grants Programme.

Esmee Fairbairn Foundation Arts Strand Deadline ongoing Arts interests are: • Sustaining the viability of the arts sector through multi-year funding • Smaller grants to support organisations or projects which are testing out new ways of working • Providing funds to specialist infrastructure organisations to pass on to organisations • The development of emerging artists, emerging practice and new and more sustainable business models. • Arts organisations working with harder to reach groups and/or addressing difficult issues

Chapman Charitable Trust Rolling programme The majority of grants are of either £1,000 or £2,000. A few special projects receive £6,000. The Trust supports charities in the areas of social services, culture and recreation, education and research, health, environment and heritage.

Tudor Trust grants for voluntary and community groups Rolling programme No minimum or maximum amount The Tudor Trust is an independent grant-making trust which supports voluntary and community groups working in any part of the UK. The Trust particularly wants to help smaller, community-led organisations that work directly with people who are at the margins of society, and support positive changes in people’s lives and in their communities.

The Charity Commission, the regulator for charities in England and Wales has launched a new tool to help charities find umbrella and infrastructure bodies offering tailored advice and support.

£500,000 "Grow your tenner" Localgiving.com campaign The London Community Foundation announce an exciting new initiative from their online fundraising partner, Localgiving.com. Local charities and community organisations across England are being offered the opportunity to participate in its £500,000 "Grow Your Tenner" campaign.

Big Society Capital A new financial institution set up by the UK government to finance charities and community groups has been launched. Big Society Capital will have £600million, of which the majority comes from unused cash in bank accounts that had been dormant for more than 15 years. The fund will back social enterprises that prove they can repay an investment through the income they generate.

Think Big In partnership with the National Youth Agency and UK Youth, O2 has launched its Think Big social action programme to support young people in the UK. It’s designed to empower young people (aged between 13 and 25) who want to make positive changes to their communities.
