Monty, a 12 year old boy from northern Iowa, was instructed by his father to enter the family’s 20,000 bushel grain bin containing last year’s corn stored over the winter. The father was on the ground outside the bin and had asked Monty to take a broom inside the bin to dislodge grain that had crusted to the sides of the bin. When Monty entered the bin and jumped down to the floor, a large hunk of the corn layered on the side of the bin collapsed, entrapping Monty up to his arm pits. Monty was not able to get himself out of the grain.
