Jim Hamblen, born in 1946 in Dallas, Texas, grew up in a musical family with everyone playing different instruments and everyone singing… including his uncle, Stuart Hamblen who wrote songs such as “This Ole House”, “I Won’t Go Hunting With You Jake”, “Texas Plains” and “It Is No Secret”!

Jim started playing music professionally when he was in high school and then after a brief stint in college and hanging around such groups at The Turtles… The Everly Brothers… The Vogues… moved to Hollywood, California and worked for H.B. Barnum. H.B. was head arranger for Capitol Records and it was during this time that Jim played with several major artists including Dobie Gray that had such hits as “Drift Away” & “The In Crowd”.

After coming back to Texas… marrying his sweetheart, Dianne… & going back to college… Jim did concerts with Ferlin Huskey - “On The Wings Of A Dove”, and Jody Nix - “Big Balls In Cowtown”.

In 1976, however, Jim realized that something was missing from his life! And after listening to Rex Humbard preach several times on TV out of Akron, Ohio, invited Jesus to take over his life. And now instead of singing “Whisky River Take My Mind” Jim is singing “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”!

Since 1976 Jim has served in many churches… led many revivals… appeared on TV & radio… and written and recorded many songs including “No Slow Walking”, “Welcome Home” and “Packing Up Old Memories”. (Many of these songs can be heard on Youtube.com by searching either Jim Hamblen or James Hamblen).

Jim’s latest project is Jim Hamblen “Favorite Hymns Vol. 1” released in March 2014.

Jim is Minister of Music at Ruidoso Downs First Southern Baptist Church… and he & his bride of 46 years make their home in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
