Receptionist Volunteer Task description

Would you like to be part of an effective and friendly team volunteering within an international development charity and to make a difference to the lives of some of the world’s poorest people? Christian Aid’s Receptionist volunteer makes an important contribution to Christian Aid’s work by extending the capacity of Christian Aid staff.

The receptionist volunteer will be part of a team providing a high level of customer service to members of Christian Aid and the general public using initiative, communication skills and acting promptly and effectively with requests. You will get to play a part in strengthening the team in providing a quicker and effective response to Health & Safety issues for staff worldwide and to support ICH staff in their daily duties.

What will I do?

The main focus of this particular role is to provide support and to assist Facilities Management in its functions.

 To make clients feel welcome and manage activities in reception  Informing staff when appointments arrive  Receiving and routing of telephone calls to the correct person/department  Ensuring visitors are recorded and dealt with appropriately  Assist in the daily routine and provision of services undertaken by Facilities  Monitor risk assessments and liaise with staff on Health & Safety issues  Set up databases for a small asset register  Learn the aims and objectives set out in the Health & Safety Policy and that of the Health & Safety Committee and the teams annual review  Any other administrational tasks as required What skills do I need?

For this particular role, we are looking for someone with the following skills:

• To be friendly and approachable • To be able to work as part of a team • Good organisational skills • Able to keep calm under pressure • Good communication skills • Professional telephone manner • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation would be desirable or willingness to learn

 Appropriate induction and training for your volunteering role  Supervision while undertaking your volunteering task  One-to-one support sessions with a named contact within Christian Aid  Quarterly volunteers e-newsletter  Out-of-pocket expenses (up to £15 a day)

Are there any other requirements?

 You will need to be in sympathy with Christian Aid’s aims to challenge and change the systems that keep people poor  You will need to live within reasonable traveling distance of Christian Aid’s head office in Waterloo
