Academic Experience Adjunct Professor, Certificate of Financial Planning Program, Old Dominion University (November 2008 – Present). Teaching Investment Planning to executives in the Certificate of Financial Planning Program. Adjunct Professor, Executive Certificate of Financial Planning Program, Duke University (January 2008 – Present). Teaching Tax Planning as well as Retirement Planning to executives in the Executive Certificate of Financial Planning Program. Adjunct Professor, Graduate Teaching Assistant, Old Dominion University (August 2007 – Present). Teaching Corporate Finance in the Department of Finance, College of Business and Public Administration. Assistant Professor of Accounting and Law, Lander University (January 2001 – May 2007). Taught Legal Environment of Business, Commercial Law, Individual Taxation as well as Corporate Taxation and Personal Finance with a four and four course load per academic year. I also served on various departmental committees as well as advised over 35 business students per semester.

Provide Financial Literacy Corporate Training to employees of area businesses as part of their employee benefit package. Provide a four-hour managing money and debt reduction interactive skill-based corporate training workshop as well as a two-hour basic investing interactive skill-based corporate training workshop. Provided training opportunities to: US Army, US Navy, Milliken Company, and Greenwood County. Army JAG Officer, US Army Reserves (2000-2008). Provided legal advice to commanders and individual soldiers both active duty soldiers as well as reservists. My numerous positions included Training Officer, Prosecutor, and Financial Literacy Trainer. Retired with 28 years of honorable service. Self-employed attorney, James E. Supervised all of the administrative support areas of the university which included eight departments and approximately 100 state employees in addition to overseeing a $36 million annual budget. A one-hour program about net worth and how to have financial balance in ones life. 2006: South Carolina Department of Education, Served on an Ad Hoc committee to explore and assist in drafting the policies regarding resources and standards for Financial Literacy initiative for K-12. 2006: Talk Radio Financial Literacy Program, Conducted a free seven-week financial literacy workshop for area volunteers and chronicled their progress on a local talk radio station, 94.1 FM and 1450 AM. 2006: Financial Planning Association and National Public Radio, Interviewed during South Carolina Business Review on National Public Radio. Discussed how tax planning fits into the comprehensive financial planning environment. 2006: Local Realtor Association Meeting, Facilitated discussion regarding basic financial literacy of those looking to purchase homes in the area. 2006: Financial Planning Association and National Public Radio, Interviewed during South Carolina Business Review on National Public Radio.
