Create Your Own Detective Writing Assignment
Follow the steps below to create your own detective.
1) Create a name for your detective. Write it across a plain sheet of 8½x11” paper in this format: “Detective .”
2) Draw an illustration of your detective. Add as much detail as possible to your illustration. Colour the picture.
3) Create a write-up about your detective on a piece of looseleaf. It is to be 2 paragraphs in length. Remember paragraphs are about 5 sentences in length. Paragraph 1: - Who are they? (name, age, description of family, any pets or sidekicks) - What are their hobbies or favourite things to do?
Paragraph 2: - How did they become a detective? - Are they good at being a detective? Outline their sleuthing history.
4) When you are done writing, please re-read your work and edit for spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Ask yourself, “Does this make sense?” Make any necessary changes.
5) Choose someone else to edit your writing. It could be a classmate, parent/guardian, friend, or sibling. They must give you at least one reasonable suggestion to change. Once they are done editing, have them sign their initials somewhere on the page.
6) Write out a good copy of your paragraphs on looseleaf.
7) Staple or paperclip your illustration, rough copy, and good copy together to turn in.
8) Practice reading your write up out loud. You will create a presentation with your illustration and write-up. * Mrs. Smith will explain this step further in class.* MYSTERY WRITING ASSIGNMENT Rubric
