National Junior Honor Society GRAND BAY MIDDLE SCHOOL The National Junior Honor Society is a service organization that promotes recognition for students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, citizenship, and service. The National Junior Honor Society member must exhibit exemplary academic achievement, honorable and admirable character, leadership - either overtly or silently – respectable citizenship, as well as service that demonstrates that the member is willing to use his or her talents and skills for the improvement of society. As stated in the National Junior Honor Society Handbook, “the selection to the National Junior Honor Society is a privilege, not a right. Students do not apply for membership in the NJHS; instead, candidacy for membership is determined by meeting or exceeding the criteria as stated in Grand Bay Middle School’s NJHS By-Laws. This is not an election, nor is membership automatically conveyed simply because a student has achieved a specified level of academic performance or scholarship. NJHS is more than just an honor roll.” Along with academic performance, the components of character, leadership, citizenship, and service are carefully considered in the selection process.
