A RESOLUTION honoring Kentuckian and Major League Baseball player Kevin Jarvis on MLB Day 2006 in Frankfort. WHEREAS, Kevin Jarvis was born August 1, 1969 in Lexington, Kentucky, the son of Tom and Anna Jarvis; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jarvis attended Lexington Tates Creek High School and played on the Commodores' 1986 KHSAA Baseball Champions, where he was the winning pitcher in the state championship game and was named Best Male Athlete at Tates Creek High School in his senior year of 1987; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jarvis attended Wake Forest University, where he graduated Cum Laude with a BS in Biology in 1991 and also played baseball for the Demon Deacons, becoming one of only 10 pitchers in school history to register 20 or more wins, resulting in his selection as the Wake Forest Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1991 and as Honorable Mention Academic All-ACC; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jarvis was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 21st round of the 1991 draft, making the major league team's opening day roster in 1994; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jarvis made his major league debut on April 6, 1994, pitching 0.2 innings of shutout relief against the St. Louis Cardinals; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jarvis made his first major league start on June 1, 1994, pitching 5.2 innings against the Montreal Expos with no decision; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Jarvis earned his first major league win and got his first major league hit in the same game on August 9, 1994, against the Los Angeles Dodgers; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jarvis has been a versatile and dependable pitcher for 8 major league teams over the last 11 years and is slated to sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the 2006 season; and WHEREAS, Kevin Jarvis is the loving husband of Elizabeth, and the proud father of an 8 year old son, Bryce, and a 5 year old daughter, Kennedy; NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The members of this body, both individually and collectively, do hereby proclaim Kevin Jarvis to be an outstanding citizen of the Commonwealth and an exemplary role model for the young student athletes in the Bluegrass State, and congratulate him on his accomplishments. Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate shall forward a copy of this Resolution to Senator Brett Guthrie for presentation to Kevin Jarvis.
