PETTUS AWARD OF EXCELLENCE for PRINCIPALS – 2013
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of the Pettus Award of Excellence is to recognize eight outstanding principals in SLPS schools. Every principal in the District is eligible to apply or be nominated. This award recognizes principals who inspire staff and students to achieve and have the respect and admiration of their teachers, students, parents and colleagues.
ELIGIBILITY
Full-time St. Louis Public Schools principals (PK-12 and Alternative) Has not previously received a Pettus Award
NOMINATING AND APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Principal candidates may be nominated by staff or administrators in their school. Nominations and application packets should provide support for their consideration.
After having been nominated, each eligible candidate will be asked to submit an application packet for the selection process. The application packet will consist of: 1) A brief professional biography. 2) A written document that demonstrates the candidate’s philosophy and approach to school administration in a way that could be implemented by other principals. 3) Two letters of support from the candidate’s teaching staff, counselor, or any other district personnel substantiating the candidate’s excellence in promoting/facilitating excellent teaching and the candidate’s role in creating a positive school culture.
The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Completed application packets must be received no later than December 21, 2012. The nomination form and application packet may be accessed via the SLPS website by clicking “Employees” and then “Pettus Awards.”
SELECTION PROCESS
The St. Louis Public Schools Office of Institutional Advancement will oversee the selection process. A panel of judges consisting of retired principals will interview nominees and select the eight winners in spring 2013. Winners will be notified in May 2013.
