Field Guide Assignment Horticulture Class 2015-16 Period 4 Elective Students will be required to complete a field guide of plants and animals of Portola. The number of entries completed will determine part of your grade for the class. The purpose of the field guide is for users to identify trees, plants, or animals of a particular region (in this case Portola). Directions for creating a field guide entry:
1. Sketch and color 2-3 pictures of a tree, plant, or animal. The number of pictures depends on the number of identifying features of your entry.
2. Write (in your own words) one brief paragraph that would help the reader identify the tree, plant, or animal.
3. All sentences must be complete, all words must be spelled correctly, and all capitalization and punctuation must be correct.
4. All entries will be glued into a journal. Example entry:
The thrasher bird is often found in the garden area of Portola. It is a medium size brown and tan bird. It is easily identified by its’ yellow and tan dotted breast. The wings also have a showy white stripe with flecks of blue in a straight line. They can often be found in the high branches of trees.
