PROCEDURE CHART

Teacher's Notes continued from page 190-TG. After steps l and 2 on page 190-TG have been completed you will pick up hem 3. After they have turned to page 191, review the seven steps for the two goals on the General Goals Procedure Chart with your class. As you go through the steps, make certain that you emphasize the following points

• Step One - State your goal in the positive, as if it has already been achieved. For example, Goal ' 1 says, "I am enjoying weighing 165 pounds and having a 34" waistline." It does not say, "I need to lose 37 pounds."

• Step Two - List all of the benefits you will gain. Be very specific with the benefits you list. Notice how specific the benefits are for each of these goals

• Step Three - List all of the obstacles. This may seem somewhat negative up front, but it is better to be expecting a major obstacle, than to be caught off guard.

• Step Four - List all of the skills or knowledge you must acquire.

• Step Five - List all the people you need to get involved. Make certain you list only those people who will be a positive influence on your goal.

• Step Six - Your plan of action must be very specific. After you have listed all of the steps in your plan of action, you should ask yourself, "If I take all the steps in my plan of action, will I have reached my goal?" If not, you must be more specific.

• Step Seven - List the date you will be able to complete your goal Make certain you consider all of the factors when setting the date.

Teacher's Notes are continued on page 192-TG. After step 3 has been completed, turn to page 192-TG to continue the activity.
