Welfare and Discipline Policy

The Welfare and Discipline Policy of Batlow Technology School aims to ensure that our school provides effective teaching and learning within a secure, well managed environment. We recognise that this aim can only be achieved through a strong partnership with students, teachers, parents, caregivers and the wider school community.

The Welfare and Discipline Policy has four focus areas:  The School Values  The Merit System  Strategies and practices to promote positive student behaviour  Strategies and practices to manage inappropriate student behaviour

Context 1) Batlow Technology School and its community strives to provide quality learning environments which are:  Inclusive  Safe and Secure  Free from bullying, harassment, intimidation and victimisation

2) All students and staff have the right to be treated fairly and with dignity.

3) When parents enrol their children at Batlow Technology School, they enter into a partnership with the school. This partnership is based on a shared commitment to provide opportunities for students to take responsibility for their actions and have a greater say in the nature and content of their learning.

4) In implementing our school welfare and discipline policy, no student will be discriminated against, harassed or victimised on any grounds. The School Values

Respect and Responsibility Students are expected to respect the rights of others, themselves and the school in an environment of harmony and personal responsibility. R Do you respect yourself, respect others and take responsibility for your own actions?

Excellence Students and adults who support them are expected to do their best to achieve excellence. E Have you done your best

Success Students. Staff and parents work towards quality, success and recognition for themselves and the school. S Can you evaluate your own performance?

Participation This school values the participation of students, staff, parents and the wider community in all activities. P Are you actively involved in the life of the school?

Enthusiasm This school fosters enthusiasm, initiative and continuous improvement in individuals, teams and the school, doing your best at all times. E Are you trying to find a better, smarter or more creative way of doing things?

Caring This school is driven to creating a caring school society that works to create a safe learning environment for all of the school C community. Have you made sure you and others are working in a safe and caring way?

Teamwork and Leadership Individuals work together to create a harmonious, tolerant and effective school community. T Have you been an asset to the team? The Merit System

The merit system aligns to the school values. Students will receive merit awards based on their ability to meet the school values.

Requirements of Level What happens as a result of being on this level? Level Platinum Level Student has earned a further 40 merit  Receive award at presentation night awards. 5 of which come from each value  Article in local newspaper and an additional 5 merits from any value.  Principal’s luncheon Students will need to complete 2 hours  Letter to parent/carer community service. In addition to this  Reward voucher ($10.00 to spend at the Newsagency) students will need to write a written application to support their request to achieve platinum level. This will then result in a platinum award.

Gold Level Student has earned a further 30 merit  Receive award at term assembly awards. 3 of which come from each value  Morning tea and an additional 9 extra merits from any  Article in “Scoop” value. This will then result in a gold award.  Letter to parent/carer  Reward voucher ($5.00 to spend at the canteen)

Silver Level Student has earned a further 20 merit  Receive award at morning assembly awards. 2 of which come from each value  Article in “Scoop” and an additional 6 merits from any value.  Letter to parent/carer Reward voucher ($2.00 to spend at the canteen) This will then result in a silver award. Bronze Level Student has earned 10 merit awards from  Receive award at morning assembly any value. This will then result in a bronze  Article in “Scoop” award.  Letter to parent/carer
