An approach paper encompasses summary, analysis, and synthesis of your research. Group members are expected to take primary drafting responsibility on some elements and primary editing responsibility on other elements. Please log your time on your personal project log.

Dystopia Approach Paper

SECTION ONE—Identification of Current Trends This section requires a minimum of 2 reputable sources per paragraph. You must actually use at least 2 different sources per paragraph. Each paragraph of this section must include the citations used to prepare it, and your group must also include a works-cited page in proper MLA format.

I. TOPIC—In a well-developed PIE paragraph, identify specific trends and provide the information necessary to provide a concise summary of the current trends for your topic. At the end of each paragraph, list citations for that paragraph. Author—name Editor—Name Citations Repeat pattern for each of the 8 topics your group selected for the project

SECTION TWO--Analysis of Research

Based on your research identify 2-3 trends that form the basis of your dystopian vision. For each trend in your dystopia, write at least a PIE paragraph that identifies the trend and explains your decisions to include it as part of your dystopia. Author—Name Editor--Name

SECTION THREE—Synthesis of research Using ideas and information gathered from the three novels read in and out of class, the research collected, and additional links on the wiki, each group will create the essential elements of the dystopia. 1. Refer to the building blocks link from the wiki 2. Discuss each of these elements within your group 3. Determine the elements of each of these as they occur in your dystopian vision 4. Write 3-4 sentences explaining each one of the elements listed below.

ATTITUDE TOWARDS SCIENCE--what is the balance, between research, technology, and nature? VII.GENDER ROLES AND RELATIONSHIPS--how strongly differentiated are the two sexes VIII.FAMILY LIFE--how are children raised IX. METAPHYSICS--what are the central symbols and myths of society
