August 23, 2016

The Braxton County Board of Education met on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 6 p.m. at the

Board office. The following members were present:

Jill Cooper, President Dave Hoover, Vice President Shane Brown Van Carr Brad Shingler

Jill Cooper called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Jill Cooper led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Dave Hoover offered a non-denominational prayer.

The Board of Education recognized Sandy Rose, Custodian as Employee of the Month at Little

Birch Elementary. Mrs. Hoover said that Mrs. Rose keeps the school spotless and is great with students and staff!

Delegations: Michael Parks – Flatwoods Kindergarten class, Shawn Crow – Support of High

School students and staff, Mackenzie Helmick – Honors classes at the high school, Nicole Cline and Debra Reynolds Cline – Honors classes at BCHS.

The Pep Rally was discussed. The Board discussed having the meeting at the high school for the September 20 meeting and how to choose a student representative to the Board. Also discussed was the consideration of a Coaches Handbook to be given to all coaches in all sports including schedules, inventory as well as policy and procedures, expectation and code of conduct for both coaches and athletes. Dave Hoover moved and Shane Brown seconded to approve the Consent Agenda Items

(Approval of August 9, 2016 Meeting Minutes, Payment of Bills, Budget Transfers and

Supplements, request to be released from Braxton County Schools to attend Nicholas County

Schools.)

Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.

Van Carr moved and Brad Shingler seconded to approve the following Employment/

Reassignments – Professional:

1. Sarah Dennison – Business Education Teacher at BCHS effective August 24, 2016 2. Andrea Rexroad – 3rd Grade Teacher at Flatwoods Elementary effective August 24, 2016 3. Brad Shingler moved and Shane Brown seconded to approve the following requests to have names to be removed from the Substitute Teacher List effective August 24, 2016:

Brad Shingler moved and Van Carr seconded to approve fundraisers from Burnsville

Elementary, Davis Elementary, Flatwoods Elementary, Sutton Elementary, BCMS and BCHS

Van Carr moved and Shane Brown seconded to approve the Pre-K Calendar for the 2016-17

School year.

A discussion was held regarding the Kindergarten class overages in the county. It was decided to hire 2 more Kindergarten teachers.

Jill Cooper moved and Dave Hoover seconded to adjourn. Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.

The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the Braxton County Board of Education will be held at 6:00 p.m. on September 6, 2016 at Braxton County High School.
