Whitewater Middle School Dance Student Handbook 2012-2013

Welcome to Creative Dance. My name is Mrs. Little. The purpose of this handbook is to familiarize you with the rules and procedures. All classes are held in B-1. Always remember: 1. Give 110%, 2. DANCE to your fullest, 3. Practice Makes Permanent

Classroom Rules And Expectations

1. Respect each other’s personal space and one’s property! 2. Do Not Talk while I’m Talking! 3. No Candy, Gum, Food, or Drinks allowed! 4. Do Not Touch or play with my radio/Ipod unless given permission from the teacher! 5. I expect every child to try their best or more!

I can not express enough how important my rules and expectations are in this class. When rules are broken, I will be in contact with the parent by phone conferences.

Consequences

1. Verbal Warning 2. Silent Lunch/Parent Contact 3. Team Intervention/Isolation/ISS 4. Referral to the office

Required Materials

1. A Dance Folder: Each student must have a 2 pocket folder 2. Notebook paper 3. Pen or Pencil: Students must have a pen or pencil at the beginning of class 4. All students will be required to Dress Out Daily! Girls: White T- Shirts and Black Capri Sweat Pants/ Black Sweat Pants/ Black Basketball Shorts Boys: White T-Shirts and Black Basketball Shorts or Black Sweat Pants (All dress out clothes can be brought to school in a mesh book bag)

5. A pair of totes or extra socks: Totes are socks with grips on the bottom. They are located at Wal-Mart, Target, or the hospital.

Dressing Out is counted as a daily grade. Each day you Do Not Dress Out you loose 4 points a day!

What Is Being Taught In Dance

Dance Students will learn material from the North Carolina Dance Curriculum. The NCDC follows the National Standards for Dance Education. Students will be expected to read and write everyday! Integration with other curriculums is also an important part of our class.

Class Participation And Daily Attendance

Class participation is a very important part of a movement/dance class. Daily participation is required! Students will be expected to change into their dress out clothes and socks everyday unless otherwise told by the teacher. Dance requires full articulation of the feet. Shoes will Not be worn during class time.

Grades

Grades will consist of three parts:

1. Movement Assignments, Participation, and Class Work = 45% 2. Test/Quizzes/Projects = 45% 3. Homework/ Notebook Check: Complete with all activities, worksheets, etc. = 10%

*Participation includes all performances!!! * NO STUDENT IS ALLOWED TO “SIT OUT” IN DANCE WITHOUT THE TEACHERS PERMISSION. ALL STUDENTS MUST DANCE EVERYDAY!

* All students are responsible for all work when absent from school!!
