Intervention: Sight Word Recall

Targets: - Increase Dolch Sight Word recall

Materials needed: - Dolch sight words written in large print. - Dolch word list recorded on tape - Tape recorder - Tally sheet to record words recalled correctly and words missed.

Implementation: 1. Select three new sight words per week (continue to add words to the list while reviewing the previous words). For example, by week three, the student should be reviewing six and learning three words. 2. Provide a list of sight words written in large print. 3. Daily have the student play tape and follow along on the list. 4. Have student repeat words aloud after each word. 5. The student should rewind and repeat the list until the words are read clearly and fluently (approx. 8 -10 times). 6. At the end of each week the teacher will present the list of words and have the student read the list (without the assistance of the tape). 7. The teacher then records the words read correctly and incorrectly on the tally sheet. 8. The teacher will also provide basic phonics instruction to help student understand the sounds in each word and identify sound patterns. 9. Also, the teacher will review the words read incorrectly and provide instruction as needed.

Tips for Implementation:  Have the student work with a partner to help her learn the words correctly.  If student is having difficulty with words, have the student review the same list words for another week.  Keep a list of words read correctly each on a chart so student can see her progress. Praise her frequently and challenge the student to increase the number of words read correctly each week.  Have student create a key ring with the words she knows. She can review these words at home. Intervention Two: Sight Word Recall Record Sheet
