Teacher – KS1 – September 2017

Dear Applicant

Thank you for your interest in working at The Rissington Primary School.

About our school and the vacant post The Rissington School is situated in 2 beautiful Cotswold villages. The Great Rissington site itself is 120 years old, but has been beautifully refurbished and now provides first-class amenities for the 80 children who learn there. The newer Upper Rissington site, which opened in March 2015, is 3 minutes-drive from Great Rissington has been built to educate the growing local community. We currently have a staff of 10 teachers (including the head!) and 12 support staff and we offer before and after school care as well as a pre-school. The classes on each site are organised in parallel to enable joint planning and support between colleagues and equality of provision for all learners, no matter where they go to school.

Despite this development for the school, we are keen to retain the friendly, supportive, stable environment in which both children and staff develop and flourish. We have a cohesive whole-school approach to all areas of the curriculum and firmly believe in working in a team where everyone’s views are valued and respected. This has led to an ethos where high standards are expected and achieved, through the hard work and dedication of children, staff, parents and the community. Pupils come from the immediate area and from further afield. The school is oversubscribed, enjoying a very high reputation locally. Parents and the local community are very involved in the life of the school. The school has received many accolades; International Award, Gold Active Mark, an Outstanding grading from Ofsted as well as the ECO School Green Flag for sustainability.

It is fair to say that many of our children come from a privileged background and levels of attainment are above the national average. We are continually looking for ways to provide the best curriculum for our children and now, whilst basing our curriculum on the national curriculum requirements, devise topics that stimulate the interests of the children (and their teachers!). We offer a wide variety of clubs after school, not only run by teaching staff, but also by members of the community and parents. Planning, Preparation and Assessment release time of ½ day each week is covered by a part-time member of the teaching staff. Each class has a Teaching Assistant for the majority of the school day.

The Governors of The Rissington School are seeking to appoint an excellent teacher, creative and enthusiastic, on a permanent contract. The new staff member will be given an area of subject responsibility within the school, but as we will have a number of staff changes in September, this area is open to negotiation and will hopefully be linked to the curriculum strengths of the successful candidate. We have close relationships with schools in the area and it is anticipated that there will be the opportunity to link with cluster subject leaders.

From September 2017 The Rissington School will be organised into 7 classes as follows. No matter which site our children and staff attend, we work together closely and are citizens of one school, no matter its position – Our minibus is helpful in ensuring ease of transportation between sites.
