Dear Third Grader,

Hello! Welcome to third grade! My name is Mrs. Turney and I am going to be your third grade teacher! I am really looking forward to meeting you on Tuesday, August 22nd.

I hope you have been enjoying your summer vacation. I have been spending lots of time with my family. We have been to the beach in New Jersey and South Carolina. Going to the beach is my favorite part of summer!

There are lots of exciting things to look forward to in third grade. In language arts we will read lots of interesting stories and build our writing, grammar, spelling, and cursive skills.

In Social Studies we learn about the five geographical regions of the United States and the fifty states that make up our great country. In Science we learn about the solar system, matter, water, and ecology.

In Math we will continue perfecting our addition and subtraction facts and will get to learn all about multiplication and division. Keep practicing your math facts!

I’m sure you have seen the list of suggested school supplies on the school website. It would be great if you could bring everything the first day, but if you can’t please try and bring the accordion folder. You don’t need to label the sections, we’ll do that in school.

I would love to hear from you before school starts! If you have a chance, take a few minutes and write me a letter telling me all about yourself and mail it to school. This will be a nice way for me to get to know you a little bit before the first day of school! I am really looking forward to our year together! I hope you are too!

Sincerely, Mrs. Turney
