Church of St. Michael Discipleship Committee Minutes September 9th, 2013 Members Present: Joe Meurer, Diane Ulmer, Marla Kramer, Greg Thompson, Mick Kelly and Kathy Poepping Members Absent: Mike Laughery I. PRAYER – Stewardship Prayer II. WELCOME – Mick Kelly, Parish Council liaison III. EDUCATION – Second pillar of faith, prayer, from Matthew Kelly’s book IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – 8/12/13 action item approved V. DISCUSSION AND DECISIONS 1. 2013 Stewardship Renewal – Marla:  Posters – Done and placed at entrances starting 9/7 weekend. $120 for the three posters.  Banner “Stewardship, Our Way of Life” – Done and hanging outside of church. Also have two smaller banners that will be hung from it when appropriate. ~$320 for the three banners.  Order prize wheel prizes (Julie Herbst will order craft supplies and submit invoice) – Done.  Talk to Pat Millea about LYS for Faith Formation confirmation candidates and sponsors or Coffee House high school juniors and seniors - See LYS update below.  LYS literature – See LYS update below.

Steve:  Contact John Crudele about being the stewardship speaker the weekend of 9/21 & 9/22 - John Crudele has agreed to talk at each Mass.  Contact the Deckers about using any boat theater props for Discipleship Committee’s Ministry Fair booth – No longer needed, will use hammock and stuffed fish. Steve will look into how to hang hammock.

Christi:  Add need by dates to the communication plan - Done.  Burn CD of photos for Diane for slide show – CD of building photos given to Diane.  Three easels by 9/1 for posters - Done.  Make chili for Communication/school booth so Diane can make it for Discipleship Committee’s booth  Balloon bouquets for Ministry Fair  Reserve Archangels Hall the afternoons of Friday 9/20 and Saturday 9/21 for Ministry Fair set up – Done.

Jim:  Confirm with Patrick Fox whether there will be a School Open House the weekend of 9/28 & 9/29 and let Marla know so she can add to list of events for posters - Patrick has agreed to have a School Open House. Will be held second weekend of the renewal. Greg:  Order cookies and apple juice for Saturday 9/21 and donuts and orange drink for Sunday 9/22 – Will do.  Ensure Liturgy Committee is aware of plan for Stewardship Campaign – Done.

Joe:  Meet with Diane 9/18 after 10:30 AM Mass to determine number and length of runners needed for Ministry Fair – Determined four runners are needed and Jim DeGross will order.  Talk to Father Sieg about the Angelus article and mass email- Done.  Provide Christi with various communications per the plan by her “need by” dates- Done.

Diane:  Send Ministry Fair registration letter email to Christi for distribution by the end of this week; list participants registered so far, cook-off winners from last year and mention Time & Talent survey will not be conducted, but volunteer sign up templates will be available for ministries at their booths. – Done. More registrations were received.

Page 1 of 2 Church of St. Michael Discipleship Committee Minutes September 9th, 2013  Create chili cook-off ballot with map on the back – Need chili tittles from ministries, plan to print Friday before to allow for last minute changes to booth layout.  Make chili (2 pots) for Discipleship Committee’s booth – Will make a white chili with chicken  Purchase table cloth roll, tasting cups, napkins (cocktail size) and spoons - Done  Create slide show for end of Mass the weekend of 9/21 & 9/22 – Need pictures of parishioners and someone to run at each Mass. Notes:  Welcome table – Parish directories, ballots with maps, pencils, 8.5x11” map posted and posting sheet informing chili cook-off ballot box is at the Discipleship table.  Discipleship booth – LYS literature, chili cook-off ballot box and two posters with “Fishers of Men” themed scriptures.  Greg reserved ten rental tables. St. Michael has 17. Kathy wanted another table up in stage area, so Diane will bring a 6’ table for hospitality.  Diane will start set up at 2 pm Friday, 9/20 with Greg at 3 pm. Marla will be in and out as time permits. 2. New Member update – Mick Kelly, Parish Council liaison 3. Living Your Strengths update –  Marla identified 4 or 5 groups for those that went through LYS to speak to about having their group participate in LYS.  Church website will include an opportunity for those interested in LYS to give the email and time preference.  Marla will prepare literature for fair booth. 4. Development Committee update – Appeal weekend literature will include an opportunity for those interested in LYS to give the email and time preference. VI. INFORMATION A. Calendar Review 1. Next committee meeting – October 14h @ 6:00 PM at Fong’s B. Parish Council Liaison Report – Mick Kelly – Parish Council annual retreat 9/20 & 9/21, need minutes for liaison report, Council considering policy on donations with conditions. C.
