DENNY HAMLIN ON HIS 12 ILLUSTRIOUS CAREER AS A RACECAR DRIVER, AND TO 13 WISH HIM FURTHER SUCCESS IN COMING SEASONS. 14 15 Whereas, a Chesterfield, Virginia native, Mr. Denny Hamlin has 16 taken the NASCAR circuit by storm at only twenty-five years of 17 age; and 18 19 Whereas, an avid go-kart racer at the age of seven, Mr. Hamlin 20 found that he had a true gift for racing, and by the time he turned 21 sixteen he had accumulated one hundred and forty-seven wins in 22 karting, including a fourth place finish at the World Karting 23 Association National Championship; and 24 25 Whereas, Mr. Hamlin continued to excel as he worked his way up 26 the stock car ladder, winning fifty-four races and fifty-seven poles 27 in only eighty-three starts; and 28 29 Whereas, in 2004, he received an incredible opportunity and was 30 signed to a driver development program with Joe Gibbs Racing. 31 He qualified and finished in the top ten at the NASCAR Truck 32 Series and during his first NASCAR Busch Series Start, he again 33 finished in the top ten; and 34 35 Whereas, Mr. Hamlin then became the driver for Rockwell 36 Automation Racing for the 2005 season, and that year finished in 37 the top five in the NASCAR Busch Series Driver’s Points and 38 accumulated one top-five finish and eleven top-ten finishes; and 39 40 Whereas, the same year brought further fame as he scored three 41 top-ten finishes in the Nextel Cup Series. These wins led him to

1 [5278] 1 1 announce that he would run both the NASCAR Busch Series and 2 NASCAR Nextel Cup throughout the entire 2006 race season; and 3 4 Whereas, in addition to his outstanding 2006 win at Darlington, 5 Mr. Hamlin became only the second NASCAR driver to win a 6 points race outside the United States borders; and 7 8 Whereas, Mr. Hamlin currently leads the Busch Series Bud Pole 9 Award competition and continues to be a contender for the 2006 10 Busch Series Championship; and 11 12 Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud 13 to recognize this outstanding driver for his extraordinary 14 dedication to his career and to his fans and will enjoy watching 15 him achieve further victories in the years to come. Now, therefore, 16 17 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 18 19 That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of 20 South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate and commend Mr. 21 Denny Hamlin on his illustrious career as a racecar driver, and 22 wish him further success in coming seasons. 23 24 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 25 Mr. Denny Hamlin. 26 ----XX---- 27
