Job Description

Job title: Property (Prop) Associate

Work Location: Production facility and various theater locations

Division/Department: Production

Reports to: Prop and Costume Manager Full-time Nonexempt

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Property (Prop) Associate will possess the ability to create and build props that helps create the mood for the actors’ performances and conveys a message to the audience as a visual aid. The Prop Associate confers with the Director regarding interpretation and prop requirements. He/she must possess excellent communication and organizational skills, must be self–motivated, efficient and creative.

In general, the Prop Associate may do any or all of the following:

 Will read the script and become familiar with it prior to the production meeting.  Will discuss the production with the Director to determine what props are needed for the show considering the script, the time period of show, usage of the props and the Director’s vision.  Work closely with each actor to develop understanding of usage of any special props  Will participate in a production meeting in order to clarify any prop requirements.  Within thirty (30) days of receipt of the Script and no later than three (3) days following the first production meeting, the Prop Associate shall notify the Executive Artist Director and the shows Director of any additional needs they feel are required for the production that have not been addressed.  The Prop Associate will review the specific prop requirements as outlined by the shows Director.  The Prop Associate will prepare a spreadsheet to keep track of those props required for the show.  The Prop Associate is responsible for ensuring that all necessary props for a given production are cleaned, completed, reviewed and approved by the Prop and Costume Manager as well as the shows Director at least one week prior to tech week and delivered to the theater at that time.  The Prop Associate will attend some dress rehearsals and be available to make repairs or changes to any props that are needed during tech week.  The Prop Associate is to work within the allotted budget and make purchases that are necessary to complete the prop plot of the show. All receipts must be provided to the Executive Artistic Director.  Work with the Executive Artistic Director as necessary to find alternate sources of props if unable to find what is needed  The Prop Associate is responsible for ensuring all props are removed from the performance venue at the end of the last show.  The Prop Associate is also responsible for ensuring that within two (2) weeks after the last performance and strike of the set, the prop pieces are not only returned to the warehouse, but are cleaned and placed in the prop Rev. A : May 13, 2013 area in a neat and organized fashion.  The Prop Associate is responsible for returning any rented or borrowed prop pieces to their rightful owners.  Local travel may be required.  Other duties as assigned by Broadhollow Management.

Physical Requirements:

 Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.  Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards  This position requires the incumbent to stand, bend, kneel, sit, lift and/or work at various heights for extended periods of time.  Ability to work in varying environments; i.e. hot, cold, humid etc. including the outdoors.  Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 lbs.
