DMES Photography Competition 2017 Application Form The Department of Middle Eastern Studies (DMES) is accepting entries for its 2017 photography competition, with a £100 book token prize for the winning image. Submit your photographs capturing life in the Middle East and North Africa, or the place of the region in the world today! While images may have been taken during your own fieldwork or travels in the MENA region, you may also enter images taken outside the region which reflect these themes. The competition is open to current and former students on any of our postgraduate degree programmes, and to students in other departments at King’s who have studied on our undergraduate modules.

You may submit up to two images. To enter, fill out this form in full (including confirming acceptance of the competition rules) and email it with your image(s) to Dr Michael Farquhar ([email protected]) by 5pm on Tuesday, 27 June 2017.

Competition rules To be eligible for the competition, you must print your name and the date below to confirm your acceptance of the following rules:

 Photographs may be in colour or black and white.

 You may submit a maximum of two images.

 Photographs will be judged on:

o how well they capture life in the Middle East and North Africa, or the place of the region in the world today

o the composition and originality of the photograph, and the interpretation of the above themes

 You must be the sole author of any image(s) submitted to the competition.

 Only digital entries will be accepted. All images must be in jpeg format and at the highest resolution possible (at least 2560x1920/5 Megapixel).

 Images must be submitted in an email, sent ahead of the deadline and including a completed copy of this form. Images submitted in any other way, or received after the deadline, will not be considered. Your email, including your image(s) and the application form, should be no larger than 18MB. If you are submitting two images and the file sizes are too large for a single email, you may submit them in two separate emails.

 Please include your full name in the image filename. If you are submitting two images, please also ensure that filenames include “Image 1” and “Image 2” (corresponding to the details entered in the application form).

 Photographers will retain copyright of their work. However, by submitting images to the competition, you agree that DMES may use them on its website and social media and to promote the department, or may display them in and around the department.
