You MUST download this form and type in your answers and then upload this form into Turnitin.com. It will be due on Sept. 17th and will count as a test grade.

There is a glossary of terms at the back of the book, as well as a general historical timeline of events in Afghanistan that will enhance your reading experience. The facts you write on the right DO NOT need to be in complete sentences.

When reading a novel, you should ALWAYS read the preface or epilogue! So, read the preface on pages ix-xi and answer the following question in at least four COMPLETE SENTENCES:

Do you agree that teenagers in America could care less about other oppressed cultures in the world? Explain why or why not. Timeline, Vocabulary, and Compelling Passages:

 For each chapter, choose FIVE important events to summarize the plot in the chapter. PUT THE EVENTS IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER as they occur in the chapter. YOU MUST WRITE THESE IN ONE COMPLETE SENTENCE. (You won’t be given credit for a fact if it is not in a complete sentence, WHICH INCLUDES A PERIOD AT THE END!)

 On the right, define the provided vocabulary words (see the glossary in the back of the book and the page number where the word appears to help you define the word in context).

 Also on the right, give one compelling passages from the chapter (no more than three sentences each). This should be copied directly from the book and properly documented (see example). You should then give an explanation for why you chose this quote as the most compelling piece from this chapter. You MUST write this in complete sentences (no more than three)

 Examples are given of each required element in Chapter One. MAKE SURE THAT YOU SPELL CHARACTER NAMES AND PLACES CORRECTLY!

Event 5: Response to Compelling Passage:

I chose this passage because it speaks to the reason why Latifa is sharing her story with us. The women of her country have much to contribute to their society and without them, even basic services will fail, including education and medicine. Latifa realizes the importance of her gender’s role and is mourning the loss of their contribution, now that the Taliban are in control. Timeline, Vocabulary, and Compelling Passages:
