Grant Opportunities  USDOE is inviting applications for grants to support postdoctoral researchers early in their careers to initiate and develop promising lines of research on special education and services for children with disabilities. Researchers must pursue a line of inquiry that is developed either from theory or a conceptual framework; be involved throughout the project with one or more nationally recognized experts; generate procedures, findings and conclusions in a manner that advances professional practice by informing other interested researchers; and disseminate project procedures, findings and conclusions to appropriate research institutes and technical assistance providers. USDOE is especially interested in proposals that include a practicing teacher or clinician in the design and conduct, in addition to the required involvement of a nationally recognized expert. Four awards of up to $75,000 a year each for three years will be funded. The deadline is May 26. For more information, see: http://www.ed.gov/legislation/FedRegister/announcements/2004-2/042104g.html.  USDOE is inviting applications for research projects to determine how technology can best be used to maximize the benefits of standards-based reform for children with disabilities. Technologies may include, but are not limited to: technology-based assessments; computerized curriculum-based measurement aligned with state academic content standards; technology-based instruction aligned with state content standards; and technology-based systems for managing and analyzing information. Projects must conduct rigorous research on existing products and approaches to determine their effectiveness, feasibility and sustainability; or research-based development and evaluation of approaches for using technology to maximize the benefits of standards-based reform for students with disabilities. Four awards of $200,000 to $300,000 per year will be made. The deadline is June 7.
