AUE activities during (2013-2015)

1-Establishing of AUE The Arab Union of Electricity ( AUE ) was established in December 1987. AUE Secretariat is based in Amman- Jordan hosted by the National Electric Power Company. Almost all Arab Utilities of Electricity are active members in AUE. Many of the manufacturing companies in the electrical field are associate members. The active members are currently 30 while the associate members are 20 and the observing members are 2. They all form the General Assembly of AUE. The Board of Directors includes 10 active members, and is appointed every three years. 2- AUE Aims:

1- Improving and developing the generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy in the Arab World.

2- Developing, improving and coordinating the areas of interest of its members and strengthening the relationship among them.

3- Board of Directors:

The AUE Board of Directors council consists of ten members elected from Active members, during the General Assembly meeting held every three years .

4- General Assembly The General Assembly of AUE consists of Active , Associate and Observing Members. The Active members usually represent the utilities working in the fields of Transmission , Generation and Distribution of Electricity , While the Associate members represent the manufacturing companies of Electricity equipment.

- The 37th Board of Directors meeting in Qatar 9 January 2013. - The 38th Board of Directors meeting in Qatar 12-13 June 2013. - The 39th Board of Directors meeting in Qatar 4-5 Dec. 2013.

c- Experts Group Meeting of technical and economic feasibility of the use of nuclear power plants in electric power generation in Tunisia during the period 17-19 / 6/2013. In cooperation between AAEA , AUE and LAS. d- Training Course about Renewable Energy in Jordan during 1-5 Sept. 2013. In cooperation with DLR and NEPCO.

2- Issuing the following Publications: -Arab Electricity Magazine 2013 - Statistical Bulleting 2012. 3- Participation in the following activities: -Middle East Exhibition in Dubai during 17-19 Feb 2013. - MEDELEC Meeting in Tripoli/ Libya during 3-4 April 2013 -Second forum of Electric Energy Trade for the Gulf Countries in Dubai 28-29 May 2013 - Federation of Arab Engineers conference in Amman on 15-16 Sept.2013 - Workshop organized by LAS and RCREEE in Bahrain 8-9/Oct. 2013

3 Achievements during the year 2014

1. Signing Memorandum of Understanding between AUE and NEXANS-Qatar , to be the official Sponsor of AUE for the year 2014. 2. Signing Memorandum of Understanding with Dar Al-Sharq/ Qatar to prepare, print and distribute the Arab Electricity magazine owned by AUE.

3. Organization of the following activities :

a- Board of Directors Meetings: 1. The 40th Board of Directors meeting in Jordan 4-5 June 2014. 2. The 41st Board of Directors meeting in Jordan 4/12/2014.

b- Committees’ meetings: - Planning Committee meeting in Bahrain 25-26 March 2014 - Engineering Committee meeting in Qatar 9-10 April 2014 - Distribution Committee meeting in Tunisia 16-17 April 2014

c- Workshop on the integration of Renewable Energy with Electricity Grids in cooperation with Dii and MEDELEC in Tunis during 15-17 April 2014 4- Issuing the following Publications: -Arab Electricity Magazine 2014(two issues) - Statistical Bulleting 2013. - Arab Electricity Interconnection Maps - Updating Electricity Tariffs in the Arab Countries - Updating Directory of Power Plants in the Arab Countries 5- Participation in the following activities: th - 6 Meeting of Electricity Expert and the Arab Forum for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Egypt 17-20 Jun 2014.organized by ESCWA.

- Pan-Arab initiative for Clean Energy (PACE) in Tunisia 24 June 2014 organized by IRENA

1- Signing Memorandum of Understanding between AUE and El Sewedy Electricity Co. , to be the official Sponsor of AUE for the year 2015.

2- Organization the following activities : a- Board of Directors Meetings: nd - The 42 Board of Directors meeting in Jordan 14 May 2015. rd - The 43 Board of Directors meeting in Morocco 26/1/2016. b- Committees’ meetings: - Distribution Committee meeting in Qatar during 23-24 May 2015 - Engineering Committee meeting in Tunis during 7-8 April 2015 - Human Recourses Committee in Jordan on 20 May 2015 - Renewable Committee meeting in Jordan on 1/6/2015

c- Annual Meeting of MEDELEC and Workshop in Brussels -5-6 May 2015 Organized by MEDELEC and Eurelectric. d- Training Course: “Integration of Renewable Energy with transmission and Distribution networks in the Arab countries during 2-3 Sept. 2015 in Jordan. In cooperation with ESCWA e- Eighth exhibition of electrical equipment Industry in the Arab World / Abu- Dhabi during 5-6 Oct. 2015 f- Workshop: “ Smart Grids and Smart Meters” in Khartoum – Sudan during 21-22 October 2015.

5 g- The third Arab Forum on the Prospect of Nuclear Power for Electricity Generation and Sea water Desalination - Bahrain 1-3-Dec. 2015 h- The 5th General Conference of AUE during 26-28 Jan. 2016 in Marrakech- Morocco.

7- The most important decisions of the Board of Directors during 2013- 2015:

1. adjustment of items 5 and 6 of Article 13 of the Statute of the Union.

2. meetings of the Board of Directors shall take place in Jordan, as a headquarters of the Union. But in case any member wishes to invite the meeting in his country, it can be arranged.

6 3. Designate Eng. Mohamad A. Al Sadiqi – Director of Procurement and Management of Equipment in the Electricity and Water Authority in Bahrain to be the Assisting Secretary General for the Gulf Region , replacing Eng. Abdel Aziz Al-Alawi the former Assisting Secretary General in AUE.

4. The approval of the National Cable and Wire Manufacturing Co. (CABLECO) request from Jordan to join AUE as an Associate member.

5. Approve the request of the Arab Engineers Federation to join AUE as an Associate Member.

6. Committee meetings to be held in Jordan, the AUE Headquarters in the absence of any invitation from another country.

7. To enable the current board of Directors to complete its program aiming to develop the work of the Union, the Council has decided to recommend to the General Assembly the extension of the current board for another three years (2016-2018).

8. Recommendation to the General Assembly that the National Electric Power Company ( NEPCO) / Jordan to be a permanent member of the Boards of Directors.

9. Renewal of the contract of the Secretary-General Engineer Fawzi Kharbat for another three years (2016- 2018), and to be put in front of the General Assembly for approval.

10. Approval of the financial report of the external Auditor for the years 2013 & 2014
