Dear Student of Team Odyssey: August 1, 2017

Welcome to the 2017-2018 year at Tohickon Middle School and welcome to Team Odyssey! The teachers of Team Odyssey hope that you had an excellent summer and are ready to start a great new school year. We’ve been busy planning for an exciting year and are looking forward to meeting all of you. Here’s a quick introduction to each of your academic teachers:

Team Odyssey teachers include: Mrs. Showaker and Mr. Hall (Science), Mrs. Levesque and Mrs. Fry-Daly (English), Mr. Neely and Mr. Forney (Social Studies), Mrs. Zagwoski (Learning Support). Mrs. Rissing and Mrs. Kennedy (Math). Mr. Hall is the Odyssey team leader.

You have three jobs to complete between today and the first day of school.

Job Number One: Gather supplies! Remember the end of last year? Your binder didn’t close right; your flash drive broke apart, and your pencils were the size of a small crayon. These things need to be replaced! You should begin the year armed with the following supplies:

For All Classes:  One 1-inch binder for each subject or larger binders for multiple subjects  Multiple sets of dividers for each subject binder  Lots of loose-leaf paper  Pencil case that can be clipped into your binder  Pencils and pens (Buy two boxes! Keep extras in your locker to re-stock!)  Manual pencil sharpener for personal use.  Block Erasers  Highlighters of various colors  One box of colored pencils  A flash drive (Label it with your name; you know it can disappear!)  2 boxes of tissues to be given to your period 1 teacher  Headphones/earbuds  A pack of index cards Subject specific items:  One black and white, one subject, marble composition book for science, English, Social Studies, and Spanish/French. ( A total of 4)  A scientific calculator (recommended TI-30X IIS) for math and science.  2 boxes of whiteboard markers for personal student use in math and Spanish class  Double pocket folder with three prong holder inside for Spanish class.

On the first day of school, each of your teachers will check that you are prepared with the above items.

Job Number Two: Complete your summer reading! At this point you should be nearly finished reading your two books for English: one from the list and one of your own choosing. You will complete a summer reading assessment within the first two weeks of school on both novels.

Job Number Three: Be enthusiastic about your new school year! This is going to be an exciting year, but only YOU can make the most of what is offered to you.
