BELFAST EDUCATION AND LIBRARY BOARD
The Belfast Education and Library Board under the provisions of the Education and Libraries (Northern Ireland) Orders, is responsible for providing an education and library service, including a youth service, in the Belfast area. The provision of public library services transferred to Libraries NI on 1 April 2009. The area has a population of approximately 268,000. The number of pupils in attendance at school in the board’s area is approximately 57,000.
This is a temporary post available from 1 September 2014 until 31 August 2016. Those due to qualify in June 2014 are eligible to apply.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must hold a teaching qualification as approved by the Department of Education (NI).
Essential: Applicants must have qualifications, training and/or experience* to teach English to key stage 4.
Preferential: Preference may be given to those applicants who have qualifications, training and/or experience* to teach media studies to key stage 4.
The panel reserves the right to enhance these criteria.
*Please note where teaching experience is required only experience gained post qualification will be considered.
On taking up this post the successful applicant must be a registered teacher with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland.
Posts involving work in educational institutions are subject to the provisions of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007. The successful applicant will require an enhanced disclosure check which at present costs £30. Further details regarding the payment of this check will be issued with the contract of employment.

School Information
Belfast Boys’ Model School traces its origins back to 1857. We seek to provide a nurturing environment based on positive relationships and mutual respect which supports, guides and inspires our pupils in their pursuit of success and happiness. Our aim it to develop confident, independent learners who fulfil their potential and become responsible citizens.
Accommodation
The school has recently taken possession of a state of the art new building and sports facilities. The building itself is an impressive presence on the Ballysillan Road and it houses an excellent range of learning and teaching accommodation. Every subject area is well catered for, including extensive practical suites for subjects such as Technology, Art, Media Studies, Music, Drama, Science, Home Economics and IT. Fully integrated IT resources, including interactive whiteboards are present in every classroom and there are excellent independent study facilities within the Sixth Form Centre, the Library, the Dining Centre and in several other locations.
There is excellent provision for developing sports and fitness. This consists of, an 812m 2 Sports Hall, a gymnasium, a fully equipped fitness suite, 3 synthetic pitches including a floodlit 3G football pitch, a rugby pitch, a hockey pitch, a 400m tartan running track and excellent changing facilities.
A feature of the new school is that it can offer courses in Construction at Key Stages 4 and 5 in a special workshop which facilitates training in bricklaying, plastering, plumbing etc. Alongside this workshop, there is also a computer aided design and manufacturing studio. Apart from enhancing the school curriculum, this area will also provide scope for community training and indeed, there is a concerted drive to encourage community use of all the facilities during the evenings, weekends and holidays. Individuals are able to avail of a wide range of evening classes and groups can book, e.g., the sports facilities, the Performing Arts Theatre or the Drama Studio. In addition to this, there is a Youth Club within the building which runs six evenings per week and it is anticipated that health promoting activities and clinics will be provided for the community from our purpose built Health Suite. Learning and Teaching
We aim to provide quality learning and teaching in the pursuit of academic excellence. Meaningful homework is integral to the school curriculum, enabling pupils to develop the skills necessary for independent learning.
Curriculum
All pupils follow a balanced and relevant course of education which develops individual strengths and interests. We place pupils in groups of an appropriate size, consistent with their ability. Pupils with Special Educational Needs receive support from specialist teachers who provide appropriate teaching and learning to develop every child’s potential. We offer a broad range of courses at GCSE level, allowing pupils to study subjects related to their interests and abilities. Subject choices are made by each pupil in consultation with parents, teachers and Careers Staff. Students choose AS level courses from over 20 on offer through our Senior School Consortium with Belfast Model School for Girls. Three subjects are taken on to GCE A Level in Yr 14. We also offer a number of one year Diploma courses.
