2014-2015 LSHS Careers in Education Portfolio Guidelines and Requirements
Peer Editor initials/date Cover: This should be both professional and attractive. Title Page: Include your name, name of course, school, school year. Include your internship site, mentor teacher, grade/subject area. Organization: Include a Table of Contents, dividers with tabs, sheet protectors Consider using a theme as you pull all the pieces of your portfolio together. This is a way to personalize your portfolio and make it unique. Be careful to avoid the “scrapbook” look. Use a standard system to designate which competencies are being met by each portfolio entry. Include these Guidelines and Requirements in your portfolio. Check off each item as it is completed and have other interns edit and initial your work. Professionalism: Use the appropriate computer application as you format each portfolio entry. Use of specialty papers, graphics, and pictures are encouraged if they enhance the professionalism and interest of your portfolio. Course Standards and Competencies: THE LEARNER: Standard 1: Student will understand themselves and others in their roles as learners, leaders, and community members.
1.1 Assess own personal learning style through various inventories and discussion of styles. 1.5 Actively plan, participate and evaluate a group or individual leadership project that benefits home, school or community. (Reflection & picture) Documentation of any leadership project you have completed during this course or FCCLA involvement. Include pictures and/or artifacts that show what you did. (2nd year – two examples, one from each year)
Standard 2: Student will identify developmental characteristics and needs of school-age learners.
2.1 Analyze the physical, cognitive, moral, and psychological developmental characteristics of learners. Ages/Stages Handouts with explanation from one observation showing understanding of the development at specific age. ( Inference paper) PIE Charts – not typed 2.2 Observe and evaluate learners and their environment at various grade levels. Standard 3: Student will recognize and respect all learners in our classrooms and society.
3.1 Identify and evaluate strategies that will benefit learners with special needs. Exceptional Learner Worksheet List of strategies to work with Special Needs students 3.2 List and define aspects of student diversity that impact the classroom learning environment (ethnic, racial, and cultural background; socio-economic; special needs; gender). THE SCHOOL Standard 4: Student will examine the historical and current issues affecting education.

5.1 Discuss teacher expectations and multiple roles in the school district and community. Standard 6: Student will apply their knowledge by observing, assisting, and interning in a classroom or educational setting.

6.11 Develop a simple lesson plan to include objectives, organized activities, and an assessment of student learning. At least one lesson plan you actually taught the resources needed and a self-evaluation of the lesson ( Small group lesson) 6.12 Demonstrate an understanding of how activities, routines and transitions are used in classroom management.
