 view “Why IB?” videos by current 6th graders and write a personal narrative on what it means to attend an IB school

Part 1: Read

 Read the novel, Wonder, by R.J. Palacio

1. Choose five of the ten “Questions to Discuss.” Answer these five questions in complete sentences. If you choose the precepts question, explain how these precepts contribute to Auggie’s identity. Each response must be a minimum of 5 – 7 sentences. Your response may be longer. It can be typed or hand-written.

1. Read the annotations. Choose two media (music, play, movie, etc.) from the list of annotations. Write 5 – 7 sentences for each of your selections explaining how each media contributes to Auggie’s identity.

Part 4: Click here or go to the “Everything IB” page on Piedmont’s Summer Reading website.

1. Read the IB Learner Profiles. Choose two IB Learner Profiles that contribute to Auggie’s identity. Write 5 – 7 sentences explaining how each IB Learner Profile contributes to Auggie’s identity. Include text evidence (a quote or a scene, with a page number, from the book).

2. Read the IB Areas of Interaction. Choose an Area of Interaction as a lens (or a perspective) in which to view this novel. Write 5 – 7 sentences as to how your chosen Area of Interaction contributes to the story (plot, setting, conflict).

1. Write a one page personal narrative describing your expectations for attending an IB school. Be sure to include the following:

a. Why IB? Why did you choose an IB school? What does “IB” mean to you?

b. Why IB? What are you hopes and expectations for attending an IB school after watching the videos? 2. Title your personal narrative, “Why IB?” Your personal narrative may be handwritten or typed.

What should I bring to school on September 10 th ?

1. A copy of Wonder. We will continue to use this book for a unit of study in the beginning of the year.

2. Five responses to Questions for Discussion (Part 2)

3. Two media responses (Part 3)

4. Two IB Learner Profiles and One Area of Interaction (Part 4)

5. A one-page personal narrative (Part 5)

All of the above can be turned in hand-written or printed from the computer. Please assemble your responses so that they are all attached together (stapled, booklet, etc). Make sure your name (first and last) is clearly marked on all pages.
