Our Mission Massaro Community Farm is a 57-acre nonprofit organization whose mission is to keep farming, feed people and build community.

By way of background, the farm is governed by two entities: Massaro Community Farm, Inc. holds the primary property lease from the town and is responsible for most fundraising, farm events, education and other activities on the farm that engage the public. Massaro Farm CSA holds a sublease to the property from MCF and is responsible for the farming operation.

Position: The farm’s Education Director is primarily responsible for developing and overseeing educational programming at the farm. The Ed Director will carry out a variety of duties to assist in the development and implementation of farm-based education, and will work closely with other farm staff and volunteers to support their efforts.

Work Commitment: This position is 20 hours per week year-round, reports to the Executive Director, and is supported by an Operations Assistant, volunteers and per diem staff.

Primary Responsibilities: Directing farm-based education programs for youth at the farm.  Leadership - the EPD directs, coordinates, and participates in the educational programming; supervises supporting staff and volunteers; and will be expected to leads regular meetings of the Education/Program committee  Outreach – the EPD will primarily be responsible for developing new relationships with schools and organizations in the surrounding community, raising awareness and increasing attendance of our programs  Farm Field Trips - works with the Executive Director, Massaro Farm’s FoodCorps service member and education volunteers to design, plan and carry out lesson plans that are age-appropriate for youth who visit the farm. S/he also ensures proper scheduling of farm visits, and, coordination and communication with support staff and volunteers and availability of support materials  Summer Camp and After School Programs– the EPD plans and carries out the farm’s 2-3 week half-day summer camp at the farm each August, as well as spring & fall after school (1 day/week) sessions. These programs are offered in partnership with the Woodbridge Recreation Department.

Qualifications/Skills:  Bachelor’s Degree required in either education or the environment  1-3 years direct experience in outdoor education, preferable with elementary age students  Well organized and efficient self manager, with the ability to work both independently and with our team in completion of duties  Must be comfortable in being contributing member of management team  Intermediate proficiency with computer skills, ie, Microsoft Office platform (Word, Powerpoint, Publisher) and Google cloud platform (Docs, sheets, file sharing), as well as social media tools to connect with audience and promote farm-based activities  Excellent verbal and written communication skills  Ability to communicate effectively and to keep organized electronic and paper files of educational materials  Must have strong facilitation skills and work as a team player in problem solving and know when to seek assistance when managing conflicting opinions or perspectives  Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation  Days and times are flexible. Job requires occasional evening meetings and weekend activities  First aid training a plus  Some lifting up to 25 lbs is involved
