WORK EXPERIENCE

Medical experience

3 months as a House Officer at internal medicine department at Jordan University Hospital, I did rotations in general medicine, Gastroenterology medicine and haematology

Surgical experience

3 months as a House officer at surgery department, I did rotations with gastroenterology, endocrine and thoracic surgeons.

Other experiences:

2 months as a House officer at Gynaecology and Obstetric Department. 2 months as a House Officer at Paediatric department. 1 month at Emergency and Trauma Department. 1 month at histopathology department. During these 12 months, I have learnt to apply the knowledge I have Gained at the medical school in a practical way. I learned to correlate History physical examination and investigations to reach an appropriate Diagnosis. I observed many procedures like endoscopy .I learned to withdraw blood, putting canulas, suturing and IM injections.

Pathology experience:

1 month as a House Officer at Histopathology Department, Jordan University Hospital/Jordan (March 1994)

48 months as Histopathology resident at histopathology Department Jordan University Hospital (July 1995-June 1999)

24 months as specialist histopathologist at Jordan university hospital and as a Teaching Assistant at University of Jordan (OCT 1999-OCT2001) The Department of Histopathology at Jordan University Hospital provides Diagnostic histopathology and cytopathology for population of Amman And is a tertiary hospital for the general hospitals in Amman.

4 50 months as specialist histopathologist at King Abdullah University Hospital and as a lecturer at Jordan University Of science and Technology, (Jan 2002 till 31/Oct/2006). The department of Histopathology at King Abdullah University hospital provides diagnostic histopathology and Cytopathology to the population of Northern Jordan and is a tertiary Centre for nearby district general hospitals. It is linked to the Medical and Dental schools at the Jordan University of Science and technology.

Histopathology

The Department of histopathology at Jordan University hospital Receives about 7000 surgical specimens per year covering a wide spectrum of neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions.

The department at King Abdullah university Hospital receives approximately 9000 surgical specimens per year covering a wide spectrum of malignant and non-malignant lesions. As a specialist at the histopathology department, I have been involved in reporting independently a wide range of surgical specimens and related frozen section material. I report about 60 specimens per Week after reviewing the slides with the resident and I supervise the resident during the gross examination and cutting the specimens. I have participated in reporting breast, gynaecological, Urogenital Respiratory, bone and soft tissues, gastrointestinal, liver, pancreas And eye specimens. As the hospital also has paediatric, oral and neurosurgical units, I Have had the opportunity to deal with such specimens

Cytopathology

The gynaecological (mainly cervical smears0 and the non gynaecological Cytology service has been run in parallel with histopathology. As a Specialist I report a wide range of cases including fine needle aspirates Of breast, thyroid, superficial and deep seated masses.

Haematology

I participated in reporting many cases of bone marrow aspirates, Trephine biopsies; peripheral blood smears during my residency Programme

Frozen Sections

I have gained a reasonable experience in performing the technique And the staining of the frozen section material .As a specialist at the Department I have been involved in reporting frozen sections especially on breast, thyroid, .CNS, GIT and other specimens.

5 Autopsy:

I have limited experience in post mortem examination during my Residency programme at Jordan University Hospital .I participated in dissection of about 30 autopsies.

Microbiology:

I spent one month at the microbiology department during my Residency programme and I had learnt how the routine tests are Performed and read.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

I have not been involved in any research project yet. But I am planning to participate in research projects in the near future.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been participating in teaching second and third year medical, dental and pharmaceutical students. I have been conducting lectures in basic pathology, cardiovascular pathology, haematopathology and urogenital pathology. I have been conducting practical sessions using pictures, slides, computer images and gross specimens, which are preceded by prelab lectures at Jordan University of Science And Technology. The system of teaching is an integrated one. I also give seminars for postgraduate students. From November 1999-October 2001, I gave pre-lab lectures to the Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Students at University of Jordan. Also I gave pathology lectures to students of the faculty of Nursery at university of Jordan.

- During my residency programme, I gave seminars including slide seminars And journal clubs like thyroid neoplasms and role of fine needle aspiration in diagnosis of soft tissue neoplasms. - During my residency programme, I involved in clinicopathological Conferences, I prepared slides using data show, presented the slides and Discussed the cases with the clinicians.
