The Legacy of Terra Valentine Continues in a New Location

St. Helena, Calif., July 25, 2014—Sam and Angela Baxter have acquired the Terra Valentine wine brand from owners Angus and Margaret Wurtele. Sam Baxter has served as winemaker at the Spring Mountain estate since 1999, where he played an instrumental role in building the esteemed brand, which has become synonymous for bold mountain wines.

Baxter, along with wife Angela, have relocated the Terra Valentine tasting room to St. Helena, where they have welcomed new and existing customers since April. Though in a new location, Baxter will continue to source fruit from distinct and renowned Spring Mountain vineyards including the signature Wurtele Vineyard. The current wine portfolio will continue, but Baxter plans to expand and diversify the offering over the next several years while remaining true to the quality and structure that Terra Valentine wines are known for. “It is incredibly exciting to take this step and chart the course for the future of Terra Valentine,” said Sam Baxter. “Moving away from the estate model has opened many doors and enabled us to source the top fruit from Napa Valley while allowing us to retain the personalized, family winemaking tradition that is innate to Terra Valentine.” Wine production has resumed at a new custom winery in Napa which affords state of the art winemaking technologies. Baxter continues to serve as a consulting winemaker for several labels in the Napa Valley.

Visitors to Terra Valentine experience private, seated tastings, Wednesday thru Saturday, in a secluded indoor/outdoor space at a new location off North Crystal Springs Road and the Silverado Trail. For more information or to book a tasting please visit www.terravalentine.com.

The original Terra Valentine estate located on Spring Mountain was purchased by Jackson Family Wines in December of 2013 and now serves as home to their Lokoya brand. The transaction consisted of the 77-acre Spring Mountain property, including the Yverdon Vineyard, winery and villa.

About Terra Valentine

Terra Valentine was founded in 1996 by Angus and Margaret Wurtele when they purchased a newly producing vineyard on Spring Mountain and named it the Wurtele Vineyard. In 1999, they hired Sam Baxter and his father Phil, and began making wines at the historic Yverdon Winery on Spring Mountain. The doors of the winery opened to the public in 2002. In 2014, after 15 years of successfully developing a world-class wine business, Sam and Angela Baxter purchased the company from the Wurteles to continue the legacy of Terra Valentine wines. The Wurteles continue to farm the Wurtele Vineyard located at 1,000 feet on Spring Mountain and the Yverdon Winery was sold to Jackson Family Wines in 2013.
