Domain: 7th Grade Mathematical Practice(s): Level of Thinking: Expressions & 1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. Applying Equations 2 Reason abstractly and quantitatively. 6 Attend to precision. 7 Look for and make use of structure. 8 Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. Grade Specific Standard: 7.EE. 2. Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions. Understand that rewriting an expression in different forms in a problem context can shed light on the problem and how the quantities in it are related. For example, a + 0.05a = 1.05a means that “increase by 5%” is the same as “multiply by 1.05.”

Information Technology Standard: 7.TT.1.1 Use appropriate technology tools and other resources to access information. Clarifying Objectives: Generate more than 1 equivalent expression from a real-world problem.

Task Analysis Vocabulary Review  Recall mathematical properties of operations Integers as they apply to rational numbers (integers) Expressions Equivalent Quantity  Explain that expressions in different forms can Commutative, Associative, Distributive, be equivalent, and rewrite an expression to Substitution properties represent a quantity in a different way. Coefficient Variable  Generate equivalent forms of the same expression given a word problem (a 20% discount = 80% of the cost). Instruct Additive Inverse  Understand that rewriting an expression in different forms in a problem context can shed light on the problem and how the quantities in it are related. For example, a + 0.05a = 1.05a means that “increase by 5%” is the same as “multiply by 1.05.
