Post Convention NEC August 3, 2013

The Post NEC meeting was held on Saturday immediately following the election of officers. The officers each stated their theme and programs.

President: Linda McGriff- Her theme is "Make a Difference" She challenges each member to go out and "Make a Difference."

President's Project : AMVETS Diabetes Research Institute. The institute is located at Ohio University under the direction of Dr. John Kopchick. 100% of our donations go directly to research. Training awards are granted to students in diabetes research who must be a veteran or have a parent or grandparent in the Armed Forces.

First Vice President - Sylvia Rowland Sylvia's Theme is: MEMBERSHIP ==VOLUNTEERS & VOLUNTEERS ==

Sylvia's goal is to work together with Department First Vice Presidents to provide information for a strong membership campaign. She suggests check out the Auxiliary Manual for some ideas that maybe you haven't tried for a number of years.

Second Vice President-Kathy Berning- Kathy's Theme is "Build For the Future, Support Our Children." National Project is John Tracy Clinic - John Tracy Clinic assists families of hearing impaired children throughout our country with on site activities and regional home assistance. Please continue to save your used hearing aids and cash donations.

Third Vice President Evelyn McElvin - Evelyn's Theme is: Jump Aboard The Community Love Train For All! "Project is Paws With a Cause" - Evelyn is challenging each District to see who can Sponsor at least one Assistance Dog for a veteran. Michigan is part of District IV. Evelyn is asking you to share any ideas you may have for Community Service activities.

National Treasurer - Barbara Guth - Barbara was re-elected treasurer for the next two years. She wants to see lots of GREEN!

National Americanism Officer Barbara Valley - Barbara's Theme is "Step Up and Honor Our Heroes" Americanism is the heart and soul of why our organization was formed, to be able to serve those who have served our Nation with great pride, to give aid to those who have served and to those whom are now serving, along with their families.

Don't forget the Freedoms Foundation Trip October 11-13th.

National Scholarship Officer Leslie Nell- Leslie's Theme is "Give Them the World Through Scholarship."

She reminds us of the following scholarships available through National Auxiliary

Career Scholarships up to 3- $500 scholarships are awarded to members of AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary who are re-entering the work force and need new skills or update their skills. You must have completed a semester/quarter at an accredited technical or business college, college or university.

College Support up to 2- $500 scholarships may be awarded. The applicant must be a son, daughter or grandchild of an AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary member and must be a graduating high school senior who has been accepted to an accredited college or university.

2-$1,000.00 scholarships and up to 5- $750.00 scholarships each available to members and their children Applicants must be in at least his or her second year of undergraduate study at an accredited university or college.

National Hospital Chairman Marvell Ruppel - Her Theme is: "Climb to New Heights in Hospital Work." Project: St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital Marvell encourages us to spend just a few hours each month volunteering at your State VAVS Hospitals or clinics. Our presence and donations to these facilities helps to improve the quality of care the veteran's and their families receive.

National Chaplain Dawn Dennie - Theme "There is Power in Prayer." Let us continue to uplift one another. She is available and open to all even if you just need someone to talk to. It can make all the difference. [email protected]

National Sgt-At-Arms Sheila Jackson - She will be looking for pages for next summer’s National Convention in Memphis Tennessee August 9-16th 2014.

History & Scrapbook Karin Simmons - Karin is encouraging auxiliaries and Departments to enter their scrapbooks and history books. Helpful hints: Pick a theme and stick to it Include dates on newspaper clippings If your table of contents lists page numbers -remember to number the pages Double and triple check that mandatory items are in order Bigger is not necessarily better! Follow the mandatory Criteria Order EXACTLY!
