YOUTH & MENTORING MANAGER

Bipolar UK is the national bipolar charity working with and supporting individuals affected by bipolar including carers, families and loved ones.

Purpose: We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated support service manager to lead our Youth and Mentoring services.

Concerned about the potential of bipolar, receiving a diagnosis, grappling with the challenges of the condition or being a family or loved one can be confusing and at times daunting. Our Youth and Mentoring services provide support helping to reduce the fear and uncertainty and empower individuals to manage the impact of the illness and fulfil their potential.

We have high expectations for all our team and this position at Bipolar UK will demand exceptional communication, organisation and team management skills. You will have an empathy with and an ability to engage and work with service users. We are looking for someone who thrives in a multi-tasking environment.

The position will be based in our Newport (South Wales) office and will involve work- related travel across the UK. Evening and weekend work will be required.

Specific Responsibilities

 Manage the Youth and Mentoring services

 Line manage the teams ensuring direct reports have their agreed objectives and competencies to support optimal delivery

 Ensure all work undertaken is of the highest professional standard complying with the charity’s policies and procedures  As Bipolar UK’s Child Safeguarding Officer, ensure the safeguarding of children and young people

 Implement and successfully deliver agreed operational targets working within service budgets  Manage the performance indicators within the monitoring and evaluation framework to ensure quality and successful delivery of service outcomes alongside cost effectiveness

 Establish and develop relationships with a wide range of stakeholders

 Produce regular reports for the Chief Executive, the Board of Trustees and other stakeholders as requested  Represent Bipolar UK at meetings, conferences and campaigns including the Wales Alliance for Mental Health  Lead on a number of projects and initiatives as requested by the Chief Executive  Act as an advocate for Bipolar UK within your work  Other duties deemed appropriate by the Chief Executive to assist in achieving the aims and objectives of the charity

Other  Maintain an excellent understanding of new developments in mental health support services and Youth services  Keep appraised of key issues and legislative changes impacting our service users  Proactively engage with and support service users on behalf of the charity  Maintain all data systems fully and accurately. Handle all data sensitively and securely complying with relevant Data Protection legislation and Confidentiality policies

The successful applicant is likely to have the following skills and experiences:

 A minimum 3 years of experience working at a senior level in child, youth and/or support service within a charity  Youth and community or relevant other qualification at level 3 or above  Recent safeguarding qualification or experience  Experience in managing the delivery of contracts  Understanding and familiarity of Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults, the Equality Act and Data Protection  Track record of team management  Confident networker and highly organised self-starter  Excellent communication skills, influencing, persuasion and relationship building skills  Multi-tasker with ability to work under pressure with attention to detail  Understanding of the impact of bipolar  Educated to degree level or equivalent

Outline terms and conditions of employment

This role is full time.

Salary is £36,000 This position is in Band E of the Bipolar UK scale

Holidays: 25 days a year and bank holidays.

Probationary period: six months.

A 5% contribution towards a stakeholder pension is offered after successful completion of probationary period.

The final appointment is subject to satisfactory references and enhanced DBS disclosure.
