ATTENTION: PARENT / TEACHER CONFERENCES FEBRUARY 12TH AND 13TH

Our school will be using the web-based application called pickAtime to schedule the February parent/teacher conferences. PLEASE NOTE: Parents will meet with their child’s Math teacher for February Conferences. Parents with internet access will be able schedule their parent/teacher conferences, print their schedule, and have an email reminder of the appointments sent to them. To access this program, please click on the pickAtime scheduling link on the HCPSS web site www.hcpss.org. This program is easy to use and you will be able to access this program to schedule or cancel your appointments starting Friday, January 30th at 5:00 pm until Wednesday, February 11th at 4:00 pm. In order to access this program, you will need your child’s student ID number. This ID number is on your student’s report card that will be sent home February 3rd . Unfortunately, a student ID number cannot be given over the telephone. Parents/Guardians, who do not have internet access, may call the school at 410-880-5930 to schedule their conference. Directions on how to use this program can be found on the HCPSS web site by downloading the file “Parent Directions for Using pickAtime. Parents who set up their parent account for the November conferences can sign-on using the same user ID (e-mail account) and password.

ART NEWS - Congratulations to Jada Smalling, Emmanuel Sam, and Kryiana Mason for having their artwork exhibited in the art show Keeping The Dream Alive: Moving Forward. Jada and Emmanuel's artwork was shown in the Rouse Company Foundation Gallery located at HCC. Kryiana's art was specially chosen to be displayed at The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore City. The exhibition runs from January 27 - February 22nd. Ms. Buckler, Art Teacher

Girls Night Out - On Thursday February 5th, from 6:00-8:30 GES will host its first annual Girls Night Out. This is an event for mothers and girl students in grades 3, 4, and 5. During this event Moms and Daughters will attend workshops, participate in fun movement activities, and work collectively with other mothers as well as their own child to build relationships. We are inviting Mothers an Legal Guardians only to come and enjoy a free night of fun and bonding. Please take a look in your child's Friday folder for a flyer and more information about this event. Upcoming Road to Kindergarten Workshops for Parents HCPSS will present a series of free workshops for parents with children preparing to enter kindergarten next fall. The workshops will cover expectations for school readiness, details about the HCPSS kindergarten program, support resources and registration details. Guilford’s reading incentive, Readers are Leaders, will continue thru the month of March. As students read for at least 20 minutes each night they can record the title of what they have read on their Reading Log. They need to record 20 nights of reading or 20 books to reach their goal. They will return their logs, signed by a parent, to their teacher to earn a Pizza Hut certificate. Look for these logs in Friday folders.

Title I News We expect our students to be sharing with you details of what they are learning in school. We encourage you to read with your child at least 4 times each week, and then remember to have your child log those minutes on the reading log. As for math, please practice math facts with your child at least 4 times

DATE CHANGE FOR THE GES BOOK CLUB……… Our first GES book club originally scheduled for January 7, 14, and 21st has been rescheduled. The new dates will be March 9, 16, and 23rd. Invitations will be distributed to those students involved.

Healthy Eating Initiative – Students have only one week left to complete their healthy eating log for January! Continue to encourage your child to Strive for Five servings of fruit and vegetables a day including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Students who turn in their completed logs will receive a prize. Go Healthy Eating!
