1. Status Report on Textbook Committees

MINUTES Math Department Meeting April 10, 2007

1. Status report on textbook committees Committees are still looking over alternative textbooks for MTH 090, MTH 098, MTH 101 and MTH 102. The new edition of the MTH 126 book will be used unless members of the 126 committee find problems with the new edition.

2. Assessment report A set of 12 questions has been created to be included in all sections of MTH 112. All College Algebra teachers will be asked to include the questions on a test to be graded. Teachers will be asked to return the graded results to Dan's mailbox. It will be made clear that the results will be used only for aggregate assessment, and that teacher's names will not be attached to the final report.

3. Updating course outlines and correlating them with textbooks Many of the department's course outlines need to be updated, as well as textbook correlation and assessment instruments. Some signed up to work on certain courses (below), agreeing to do the following: 1. Review the existing course outline making sure it specifies the correct textbook, states learning outcomes as behavioral objectives, has an accurate list of topics and includes technology expectations. 2. Prepare or update a second document that correlates the current textbook to the topics in the course outline. The goal is to revise as many course outlines as possible before August. To complete all of the outlines, more people need to sign up for a course. Mary Ann and Jane have copies of the existing outlines for those who want to get started. Possible tasks for the future include maintaining departmental finals for certain courses, and keeping a folder (physical and/or electronic) for course projects, helpful hints, etc.

4. Final departmental meeting in May The final departmental meeting for the semester will be on May 8, 3:00 to 4:30, in the ATC conference room. Some agenda items: -- Departmental goals for next year -- CLEP exams for 090, 096, 097? -- Continue high school contacts? -- Math honors classes? -- Vote on two motions (a) to change the MTH 112 outline to include technology guidelines (b) to amend the MTH 096 and MTH 098 outlines to include a required cumulative final exam
