ECNT 1102 INTRODUCTION TO THE ELECTRICAL TRADES An introduction in electricity, study targets the general concepts, ideas, history and relationships of the electrical trade, including employment opportunities, job descriptions, general safety and standards.

Course Purpose: To introduce the basic concepts and basic safety of working in the electrical field. To introduce the regulations and governing bodies of the electrical field. To explore the various career opportunities in the electrical field.

COURSE ACTIVITIES In this course students will:

 Participate in class discussions and activities.  View videos that depict the various concepts.  Participate in group and individual presentations.  Compile a portfolio of work produced.  Take examinations and quizzes.  Complete internet reading and writing assignments.  Visit industry related sites as schedule permits.

EVALUATION - GRADES WILL BE BASED ON THE QUALITY AND COMPLETION OF THESE TAS KS.

2 *The student’s grade for this assignment will be used in the university’s assessment of student learning. A 70% competency or higher receives a Pass rating. This Pass/Fail rating is independent of the student’s course grade.

Daily and/or weekly quizzes, small weekly assignments and similar type projects: Normal return time to student by next class meeting or no later than one (1) week.

Extensive assignments, large lab projects, extensive quizzes, exams and similar type projects: Normal return time to students in one (1) to two (2) weeks.

RECOMMENDED STUDENT COMPETENCIES/SKILLS Basic reading, math and listening skills.

AUTHORIZED TOOLS All tools necessary for this course will be provided by OSUIT. Students may use any/all course materials, including books and notes, while participating in classroom activities. All quizzes and written assignments are to be completed independently unless accepted by instructor; no collaboration with classmates is permitted and any instance of such will be considered academic dishonesty.

LATE WORK Late work will only be accepted in rare circumstances for reasons that are documented prior to the due date. Any late work must be turned in the next class session. Unless prior arrangements have been made late work will be given a grade of zero.

TESTING All test are to be completed independently unless accepted by instructor; no collaboration with classmates is permitted and any instance of such will be considered academic dishonesty.

OTHER LAB AND CLASSROOM POLICIES Students are expected to cooperate in maintaining a classroom environment conducive to learning. Courteous and respectful behavior will be expected from all students each day. All pagers, cellular phones, CD and MP3 players must be turned off. During testing no electronic devices may be utilized other than non-programmable calculators. No Jewelry will be worn in any electrical class due to electrical shock hazards. When working on a lab exercise, all required personal protective equipment must be available and correctly worn. Horseplay will not be tolerated. Failure to follow lab policies will result in a zero or reduced grade for the lab exercise for that day. Due to time constraints labs cannot be made up.
