Mr. Myers’ Homework/Schoolwork Policy
My Homework Beliefs:
I believe 2nd graders should spend their evenings playing outside, engaging in creative activities, doing sports, hanging out with family, and getting to bed on time. As such, I do not assign “homework” per se. I do ask that students finish any schoolwork they did not complete during the provided class time. I also encourage 20 minutes of free- choice reading each night. If your child does not have that much stamina as yet, you can help by reading to him/her or by taking turns reading.
How much time should the work require:
Finishing an assignment should take students no more than 10 minutes. If your child is having problems with this, please let me know right away. In addition, I request that all students read at least 20 minutes each night as stated above. They may also practice addition and subtraction facts at home via games, flashcards, and websites.
Student’s schoolwork responsibilities:
Students should do their best job on their schoolwork. It should be neat, not sloppy. Students should do the work on their own and ask for help only after they have given it their best effort. All assignments will be turned in on time. Students will record their assignments in their agenda.
Teacher’s responsibilities:
I will review all schoolwork and provide timely feedback. I will write all assignments on the board in the classroom.
(over) Parent’s responsibilities:
Parents are the key in making homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, I ask that parents make reading a top priority, set a daily reading time, provide praise and support, not let children avoid doing homework, and contact me if they notice a problem. Check your child’s agenda daily for assignments that may need to be finished, right the number of minutes read, and initial or sign it as well.
If students do not complete schoolwork:
If students choose not to do their schoolwork, they will stay in at recess until it is complete. If there is a legitimate reason why a student is not able to finish schoolwork, please send a note to me in the agenda stating the reason it was not completed.

Thanks for your help. You are the best and most important support for your child’s learning. If we work as a team, we can help your child reach all his or her goals.
