Dear Sponsor,

I would like to take a moment to familiarize you with the importance of our Midwest Match Barrel Race that will be hosed by the Girls Barrel Racing Association of Indianan on October 2-4,2009, at the Hoosier Horse Park in Edinburgh, Indiana.

The Midwest Match Barrel Race is a once a year event in which 10 mid west states are invited to bring their top 10 competitors (women and men) to compete against each other as state teams. The host state is rotated each year and was last hosted by Indiana in 2001.

The event starts off on Friday night with a huge open barrel race. All competitors are competing as individuals at this time and are awarded cash prizes for placing. Only this event is open to any competitor.

The Midwest Match then becomes an event where each state participant has earned his or her position by qualifying in the top 10 of their state.

Saturday morning starts with a grand entry. All states and their team members are brought into the arena, one at a time, and a short introduction is announced for each participant. Then the fun begins!

The women’s teams are first to run! Each state has 10 girls that compete and strive for the lowest team average. After the women are finished, it is time for the men’s teams. Each state’s runners are rotated, so you can imagine the excitement and the cheering of the crowd when ;your teammate is up to run! There is even a “Spirit” award given to the state that is the most supportive of their team. This is usually the state that is the most enthusiastic!

After the match on Saturday is complete, the host state provides a few fun games (egg toss, dog race, 3-legged race, etc.) and then it is time for a D.J. and a night of dancing!

Sunday morning it starts all over again, in reverse order! After all of the teams have made their runs, the states times are added together and the state with the lowest average wins! But it’s not over yet! Prizes are given at listed: 1 st Place State Team – 22 awards, 11 women & 11 men. 2 nd Place State Team – 22 awards, 11 women & 11 men. Fastest Individual Time – 2 awards, 1 woman & 1 man. Fastest Individual Average – 2 saddles, 1 woman & 1man Best Dressed Award Trophy – Goes to the team with the best outfits. (Did I mention that each states members all dress alike!) This award is determined by each state voting for who they think looks best. Spirit Award Trophy – Goes to the state that is voted to have the most “spirit”, like I mentioned earlier, it is usually the state that hoops and hollers the most! Hard Luck Award – Voted upon and given to an individual that just plain had some hard luck.

As you can see, this is a one of a kind, once a year event that is a wonderful opportunity for several states to get their barrel racers together and have a great competition and the opportunity to make new frients.

It is also a major undertaking for the host state to organize, rent a facility, and provide prizes and awards.

We hope that you will see this as an opportunity to support such a unique equine event.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact our Match Chairman – Kris Hornberger at 765-345-2734 or email [email protected].

Thank you for your consideration, Girls Barrel Racing Association of Indiana
