1. GENERAL

This section relates to the supply and fixing of Flashclad Ltd Bevelbord profiled horizontal aluminium cladding complete with accessories. For use on new and existing residential and commercial projects. It includes: - for fixing on to timber or steel framing over a drained and ventilated cavity - associated extruded flashing sections and components

1.7 WARRANTY - INSTALLER/APPLICATOR Provide an installer/applicator warranty: 10 years: For installation

- Provide installation warranty on Flashclad Ltd Regional Distributor standard form and Product Warranty issued by Flashclad Ltd Head Office. - Commence the warranty from the date of completion of this part of the contract work.

Requirements

1.8 QUALIFICATIONS Installers of Flashclad Bevelbord Aluminium Cladding to be Flashclad Ltd approved installers and be a LBP, with a sound understanding of weathertightness issues and detailing.

1.9 NO SUBSTITUTIONS Substitutions are not permitted to the Flashclad Bevelbord aluminium cladding system, components and associated products listed in this section.

1.10 VERIFY DIMENSIONS Verify dimensions against site measurements prior to fabrication of the Flashman Flashing System.

1.11 INFORMATION FOR OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE Provide one bound copy of all relevant Flashclad Bevelbord maintenance information on completion of the work.

1.12 COMPATIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Each flashing material shall be selected in accordance with NZBC E2/AS1 Table 20 to minimise corrosion. Refer to either NZS 3604 Clause 4.2 or AS/NZS 2728 for the relevant exposure conditions. For compatibility of materials in contact and subject to run-off, refer to NZBC E2/AS1 table 21 and NZBC E2/AS1 table 22.

1.13 INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR CODE COMPLIANCE Provide the following compliance documentation: - Flashclad Ltd Product Warranty - Distributors Installation Warranty - Other information required by the BCA in the Building Consent Approval documents.

Performance - Wind (design by contractor)

1.14 DESIGN PARAMETERS - NON SPECIFIC DESIGN Design the installation to the wind zone parameters of NZS 3604, table 5.4. Refer to general section 1220 PROJECT for details.

1.15 DESIGN PARAMETERS - SPECIFIC DESIGN Design the installation to the wind pressure parameters of AS/NZS 1170.2. Refer to general section 1220 PROJECT for details.

2. PRODUCTS

Materials

2.1 FLASHCLAD BEVELBORD ALUMINIUM CLADDING Tested to NZBC E2/VM1. Flashman Bevelbord profiled metal cladding, manufactured from extruded 6063 T5 aluminium alloy, traditional bevelback profile, 165mm x 19.25mm x 2.3mm thick with a 135mm cover, supplied in 5.8m lengths. Profiles are supplied with a pre-applied powder coat finish.

2.2 FLASHMAN FLASHING SYSTEM Refer to BRANZ Appraisal 573. Flashman Window and Door Flashing System, extruded aluminium one piece head and cavity closure flashing, jamb and sill flashing sections complete with machined aluminium end caps for the head and sill extrusions, manufactured from 6063 T5 aluminium alloy. The flashing sections are supplied to site cut to length and are powder coated to match or contrast with the aluminium joinery. Flashman sills provide full support for aluminium windows and doors; support bars not necessary. Refer to 4821F FLASHMAN WINDOW AND DOOR FLASHINGS section for flashing sections that are part of the Flashclad Bevelbord cladding system.

Components

2.3 BASE STARTER Flashclad combination one piece base starter and cavity closure, powder coated extruded 6063 T5aluminium 105mm x 1.6 thick available in 5.8 metre lengths.

2.4 INTERNAL CORNER FLASHING Flashman Bevelbord internal corner flashing, 94.2mm x 94.2mm x 1.4mm thick extruded 6063 T5 aluminium alloy. Section powder coated, available in 6 metre lengths.

2.5 EXTERNAL CORNER FLASHING Flashclad Bevelbord external boxed corner flashing, powder coated extruded 6063 T5 aluminium 89mm x 89mm x 1.4mm thick available in 5.8 metre lengths

2.6 SOFFIT DADO Flashclad Bevelbord soffit dado powder coated extruded 6063 T5 aluminium 55mm x 30mm x 25mm x 1.2mm thick available in 5.8 metre lengths.

2.7 COVER MOULD Flashclad Bevelbord cover mould, 50mm x 29.4mm x 1.2mm thick extruded 6063 T5 aluminium alloy. Section powder coated, available in 6 metre lengths.

2.8 J MOULD Flashclad Bevelbord J mould, 43.2mm x 20.45mm x 1.2mm thick extruded 6063 T5 aluminium alloy. Section powder coated, available in 5.8 metre lengths.

2.9 HEAD TRIM AND CLIP Flashclad Bevelbord head trim and clip, 38mm x 30mm x 2mm thick adjustable head trim and 32.75mm x 7.1mm head trim clip, extruded 6063 T5 aluminium alloy. Sections powder coated, available in 5.8 metre lengths.

© CIL Masterspec 2015 AUG 4241FB FLASHCLAD BEVELBORD ALUMINIUM CLADDING Page 3 2.10 HEAD FLASHING Flashclad Bevelbord head flashing, 1.3mm thick extruded aluminium alloy incorporating a cavity vent strip punched with 5mm diameter holes complying with NZBC Acceptable Solution E2/AS1, 9.1.8.3.

2.11 JAMB FLASHING Flashclad Bevelbord 2-part jamb flashing, extruded 6063 T5 aluminium alloy, made in different sizes. Powder coat finish, available in 5.8m lengths.

2.12 SILL FLASHING AND SILL BEAD Flashman Bevelbord Slimline Sill flashing and sill bead, extruded 6063 T5 aluminium alloy. Powder coat finish, available in 5.8m lengths.

2.13 SILL END CAPS Flashman Bevelbord sill end cap, 8mm aluminium plate, engineered for a tight friction fit. Powder coated to match the sill.

2.14 CLADDING JOINTER Flashclad Bevelbord extruded aluminium two piece vertical jointer for jointing lengths of cladding. Powder coat finish available in 5.8 metre lengths.

2.15 MITRE SOAKER Flashman Mitre Soaker, folded from 0.55mm Grade 5005 aluminium, 5mm degree slope to exterior with outer edge to overhang the cladding line by 15mm. The mitre soakers are supplied 140mm long and are available in left and right hand orientations.

2.16 FLASHINGS - PARAPET/ INTER-STOREY Purpose made folded from aluminium to the same standards as the Flashman Bevelbord cladding profiles.

2.17 FLASHCLAD BEVELBORD FIXINGS - TIMBER FRAME 50 mm long, AS 3566 galvanised Class 4 hex head self drilling screws with a thread diameter of 6.2 for NZS 3604 Exposure Zones B and C, and grade 304 stainless steel hex head self drilling screws with a thread diameter of 6.2 mm for NZS 3604 Exosure Zone D.

2.18 FLASHCLAD BEVELBORD FIXINGS - STEEL FRAME Cavity Batten and thermal break fixings AS 3566 50 mm long, AS 3566 galvanised Class 4 hex head self drilling screws with a thread diameter of 6.2 for NZS 3604 Exposure Zones B and C, and grade 304 stainless steel hex head self drilling screws with a thread diameter of 6.2 mm for NZS 3604 Exposure Zone D. The screw length must allow a minimum 10mm penetration through the steel frame.

Accessories - supplied by approved Flashclad installer

2.19 CAVITY BATTEN BARRIER STRIP 50mm wide medium density polyethylene (MDPE) tape supplied in rolls. To comply with NZBC E2/AS1, table 23, separates aluminium components and accessories from timber battens treated with copper based treatments in NZS 3604.

2.20 WALL UNDERLAY For flexible wall underlays, rigid wall underlays and rigid air barriers, refer to the appropriate separate section(s).

2.21 WALL UNDERLAY SUPPORT Polypropylene strap, 75mm galvanized mesh, galvanized wire or additional vertical battens for securing the wall underlay in place. Mesh and wire galvanizing to AS/NZS 4534. 2.22 THERMAL BREAK - STEEL FRAME Expanded polystyrene (EPS) to NZBC E3/AS1, Paragraph 1.1.4(d).

2.23 FLEXIBLE SILL AND JAMB FLASHING TAPE Flexible flashing tapes complying with NZBC E2/AS1, paragraph 4.3.11 or flexible flashing tapes complying with NZBC E2/AS1, paragraph 4.3.11, or flexible flashing tapes covered by a valid BRANZ Appraisal for use around window and door joinery openings.

2.24 WINDOW AND DOOR TRIM CAVITY AIR SEAL Air seals complying with NZBC E2/AS1, paragraph 9.1.6, or self-expanding, moisture cure polyurethane foam air seals covered by a valid BRANZ Appraisal for use around window and door penetrations.

2.25 CAVITY BATTENS Finished size of 45mm x 20mm timber treated to H3.1 or H3.2 for use as a cavity batten system behind wall claddings.

2.26 CAVITY BATTEN FIXINGS - TIMBER FRAME 40mm x 2.5mm flat head hot-dip galvanized nails, or minimum 50mm x 2.87mm hot-dip galvanized gun nails.

2.27 CAVITY BATTEN FIXINGS - STEEL FRAME Self-drilling 8 gauge or 10 gauge galvanized steel screws.

2.28 FLEXIBLE SEALANT Flexible sealant to NZBC E2/AS1, or sealant covered by a valid BRANZ Appraisal for use as a weather sealing sealant for exterior use.

3. EXECUTION

Conditions - general

3.1 DELIVERY Keep claddings and flashings dry in transit. Take delivery of cladding in an undamaged condition. Reject all damaged materials.

3.2 STORAGE Store Flashclad Bevelbord cladding and accessories on a level, firm base, off the ground, in dry conditions, well ventilated, out of direct sunlight and completely protected from weather and damage. Ensure storage areas are away from current work areas. Cover to keep dry until fixed. Take care to avoid damage to powder coated surfaces.

3.3 HANDLING Avoid distortion and contact with potentially damaging surfaces/substances. Do not drag claddings and flashings across each other, or across other surfaces. Protect edges, corners and surfaces from damage.

3.4 SUBSTRATE Do not commence work until the substrate is of the standard required by the Flashclad Bevelbord installer for the specified claddings and flashings, level and in true alignment.

3.5 PROTECT Protect surfaces, window and door joinery, and finishes already in place, from the possibility of damage during the installation process.

3.6 CONFIRM LAYOUT Before commencing work confirm the proposed installation of the cladding, flashings and expansion joints and other visual considerations of the finished work.

Conditions - substrate

3.8 TIMBER TREATMENT Check timber wall framing behind the Flashman Bevelbord aluminium cladding cavity system is treated to NZBC B2/AS1 and NZS 3602.

3.9 TIMBER FRAMING Check timber framing is to NZS 3604. . Check that studs are at maximum 600mm centres and dwangs are flush between the studs at maximum 800mm centres. Buildings or parts of buildings outside the scope of NZS 3604 must be a specific design in accordance with NZS 3603 and AS/NZS 1170.2. Check that additional framing has been provided at soffits, internal and external corners, vertical joints and window and door openings for the support and fixing of Flashclad Bevelbord. Modify the clause to suit project specified. Where specific design is required the framing must be of at least equivalent stiffness to the framing provisions of NZS 3604.

3.10 TIMBER FRAMING - MOISTURE CONTENT Ensure timber framing and cavity battens does not exceed a moisture content of 20% at the time of the cladding installation.

3.11 STEEL FRAMING Check compliance with NASH Standard - Residential & Low Rise Steel Framing, Part 1 Design Criteria, NZS 3404 and AS/NZS 4600. Check minimum framing specification is 'C' section studs and nogs of overall section size of 75mm web and 32mm flange. Steel thickness must be minimum 0.55mm. Check studs are at maximum 600mm centres. Install thermal break to Flashclad Bevelbord requirements.

3.12 INTER-STOREY JUNCTIONS Check inter-storey drained joints for walls over two storeys in height are in accordance with NZBC E2/AS1, 9.1.9.4(b) Inter-storey junctions.

Installation - by building contractor

3.13 WALL UNDERLAY AND FLEXIBLE SILL AND JAMB TAPE INSTALLATION Install wall underlay and flexible sill and jamb tape system in accordance with the wall underlay and tape manufacturer's instructions prior to the installation of cavity battens and Flashman Window and Door Flashing System. Install wall underlay horizontally and continuous around corners. Lap the underlay 75mm minimum at horizontal joints and 150mm minimum over studs at vertical joints in accordance with underlay manufacturer's requirements.

3.14 INSTALL CAVITY BATTENS -TIMBER FRAME Install over wall underlay/rigid air barrier to the wall framing at a maximum 600mm centres where the studs are maximum 600mm centres or at 400mm centres where the studs are at 400mm centres. Fix using 40mm x 2.5mm hot dipped galvanized flat head nails at maximum 800mm centres. Note: Fix battens to cladding areas only, installation of packers behind the Flashman Window and Door Flashing System is the responsibility of the approved installer.

3.15 INSTALL CAVITY BATTENS -STEEL FRAME Install over wall underlay/rigid air barrier to the wall framing at a maximum 600mm centres where the studs are maximum 600mm centres or at 400mm centres where the studs are at 400mm centres. Fix using self-drilling 8 gauge or 10 gauge galvanized steel screws at maximum 800mm centres. Note: Fix battens to cladding areas only, installation of packers behind the Flashman Window and Door Flashing System is the responsibility of the approved installer. 3.16 INSTALL THERMAL BREAK - STEEL FRAME Install suitable thermal break and/or cavity thermal battens. Refer to NASH Handbook, 10.7 Condensation and Thermal Break and NASH N-10 Thermal Break and Cavity Construction for information on the selection and installation methods for thermal break and/or cavity thermal battens.

3.17 INSTALL ALUMINIUM JOINERY Install aluminium joinery in accordance manufacturer's requirements and Flashman technical literature, incorporating the mitre soakers at the window corners. Install the joinery plumb and level. Leave a 7.5mm to 10mm nominal gap between the joinery and the wall framing so a PEF rod and air seal can be installed after the joinery has been secured in place. Note: Aluminium joinery must be fitted prior to installation of Flashman Flashing System.

Installation - by approved Flashclad installer

3.18 GENERAL All work to be carried out to Flashclad requirements and details.

3.19 INSTALL FLASHMAN BEVELBORD ALUMINIUM CLADDING Install Flashclad Bevelbord Aluminium Cladding in accordance with Flashclad claddingand FlashmanInstallation Guides. Install Bevelboard External and Internal Corners and combination one piece cavity starter base closure prior to the installation of the battens.

Completion

3.20 ROUTINE CLEANING Carry out routine trade cleaning of this part of the work including periodic removal all debris, unused and temporary materials and elements from the site.

3.21 DEFECTIVE OR DAMAGED WORK Repair damaged or marked elements. Replace damaged or marked elements where repair is not possible or will not be acceptable. Leave work to the standard required for following procedures.

3.22 PROTECTION Provide the following temporary protection of the finished work: ~

3.23 LEAVE Leave this work complete with all necessary flashings and capping all properly installed as the work proceeds so the finished cladding is completely weathertight.
