1 Define Transportation.

Activity/Application/ Student Engagement /Laboratory Transportation is the safe and efficient movement of people and goods in an environmentally conscious manner.

There are 4 primary modes of transportation: surface, water, air, and pipeline.

There are three components of the transportation system that have an interconnected relationship. The engineer can design the environment and the vehicle, but he/she has little effect on the behavior of the end user. The incorporation of technology in transportation is called Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). ITS is the application of high technology and computer power to current freeway, traffic, and transit systems with the goal of increasing the safety and efficiency of the surface transportation system. The utilization of ITS has the potential to solve future problems in transportation. It is important because it offers major steps forward in improving safety, convenience, and productivity of personal and commercial transportation,

Evaluation / Summary

Students will correctly answer a minimum of 70% of the questions on the lesson assessment to demonstrate mastery of this material.
