Fayetteville Academy Parents Association (FAPA) Meeting Minutes
Meeting – Tuesday, April 12, 2016
The seventh meeting of the 2015/2016 school year was held in the cafeteria and called to order by our FAPA President Sarah Moorman.
Attendees: Sarah Moorman, FAPA President Bonnie Lutynski, FAPA Secretary Joana Kimsey, Treasurer Ray Quesnel, Head of School Virginia Satisky, Head of Middle and Upper School Keith Blades, Head of Lower School --also in attendance were parents of lower, middle and upper schools.
Treasure’s Report by Joana Kimsey: FAPA Treasury Report March balance: $2443.86 April balance: $2770.91 We begin the month of April with a current balance of $2770.91. For the month of March, we had a total debit of $0. We ended the months of February and March with a total deposit of $327.05 (Tshirt/water bottles sales and PE uniform sales). This leaves us with a starting balance of 2,77.86 for the month of April.
Head of School Report, Ray Quesnel: Enrollment is up compared to this same time last year. More applications are needed for 6th grade and 9th grade. Founders Day (April 18) is a day off from school. Sonya Bruffey has been emailing parents the history behind Founders Day during April. Tuesday evening, April 19th will be the Annual Fund phone call to ask those who have not donated to the annual fund to do so during the time of the interaction with the phone call. April is dedicated to the month of the Military Child. Friday, April 15 the Academy will hold an assembly for Purple Up Day. The mayor of Fayetteville is expected to join us and speak at the event.
Head of MS/US Report, Virginia Satisky: April 21st is the Rising Sixth Grade Transition Night from 6:30-8pm. May 20th is the All School Field Day and seniors will help the lower school with activity stations. Prom for the U/S will be held Friday, April 15th. Seniors are busy planning their end of year events. Science Olympiad update. Several FA students qualified for the state tournament on April 23rd at NCSU.
Head of LS Report, Keith Blades: Two new ac/heater units were installed in classrooms. A few cabinets in the lower school were repaired. Science Olympiad competition for lower school is scheduled for April 16. FA hosted a successful military promotion for one of our lower school parents. “Last Artist in Schools” took place March 23. To date we have completed two prospective observation days totaling 19 students for PreK. Competed our first prospective Kindergarten observation day for 15 students. Last LS Friday assembly, May 13 at 2:30. Golf Cup Tournament is planned for April 23. So far we have 39 sponsors and contributions from 20 stores for raffles. More raffle items are needed such as gift cards to restaurants, ect.
Update from Sarah Moorman, President FAPA: Spirit Wear still needs a chair for 2016/2017 school year. The surveys that were emailed out for hospitality were talked about at the FAPA meeting. 35 responded with ideas for parent/family events. Spirit Rock was discussed again and there seems to be interest from parents to have a spirit rock. Ideas are for parents to attend the FAPA meetings each month to sign up for days to reserve the spirit rock. Teacher Appreciation luncheon will be held on May 6th. That is a half day of school to celebrate our teachers with a luncheon. Homemade items/salads and quiche were on the sign up list that went around to those attending the FAPA meeting. Update from Joana Kimsey: Movie night for the spring was cancelled since we did not have a sponsor. We will visit the idea of a movie night for the fall. Boosterthon Fun Run was in need of water volunteers. Field Day is scheduled for May 20 with lunch for the kids. We need help setting up and food donations.
Update from Emily Schaefer: The athletic banquet will be held on campus May 23rd.
Next FAPA meeting (breakfast social) will be held at Sarah Moorman’s home (1425 Raeford Road) on Tuesday, May 3rd.
