DISTRIBUTION of PRINT MATERIALS and REQUEST to POST on the Community Bulletin Board

STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES

DISTRIBUTION of PRINT MATERIALS and REQUEST TO POST on the Community Bulletin Board SOP – 5137-02

The Sumner School District allows, on a limited basis, distribution of print materials (flyers) to students and families by “kid mail” and in school and department offices.

Distribution of print materials via kid mail is strictly limited to the Sumner School District or organizations affiliated with the District, such as the Recreation Department, STARR Project, ASB, PTA/PTO and school booster clubs.

Requests for distribution of materials from commercial groups or for profit will be denied in accordance with Board Policy 5137 that prohibits selling or soliciting in schools.

The Communications Office will review all requests for distribution of print materials and posting to the Community Bulletin Board.

ALL PRINT MATERIALS APPROVED FOR DISTRIBUTION WILL BE SENT TO SCHOOLS VIA DISTRICT MAIL.

The materials will have an attached Flyer Distribution Request form indicating approval for distribution, which may also include additional routing instructions.

Parent Organizations, Booster Clubs and Student Groups Each school principal will approve distribution of flyers, newsletters and announcements at their school when the materials are provided by their school parent organization, booster club or student groups. The Communications Office will not review these materials.

Parent organizations, booster clubs and student groups that would like to distribute flyers at a school other than their own must seek approval from the principal of the school as well as their own school’s principal. The Communications Office will not review these materials.

Community Flyers The Sumner School District provides a Community Flyer Bulletin Board on the District Web site for parents, students and community to view, download or print approved flyers submitted by non-profit groups in the Sumner-Bonney Lake area that are youth- or education-related, unless the event or organization provides or promotes alcohol, drugs, tobacco, guns or weapons. Materials that contain graphic, violent or lewd images, profanity or sexual innuendo will not be approved for posting.
