Role Description:
Toynbee Hall is a community organisation that pioneers ways to tackle poverty and disadvantage.
Make it! is Toynbee Hall’s youth project, which aims to cultivate critical thinking skills in young people. To achieve this, young people take part in one-to-one mentoring, group sessions at their school, and a community learning trip alongside another school. Our mentoring resources are an integral part of our program because they guide our students through the structure of the project. The creative writing volunteer intern will work within the youth team to create an engaging, child friendly story starring our project mascots Tony and Bee.
The creative writing volunteer intern will make a difference to our young people by engaging them with the project and challenging them to raise their literacy levels as they travel through the story of Tony and Bee. The story you write will be read in chapters week to week and will need to be written in line with the expected literacy levels of a year 8 student.
We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and with a variety of skills, experiences and ideas. In particular, we are looking for individuals who are happy to work on their own, as well as within a team, and who have a real interest in the voluntary sector.
Skills/Experience:
You will be: Congruent with Toynbee Hall Values Willing to learn / receive and act on feedback.
You will have: You must have a bibliography of fiction for us to get a feel for your work Experience writing children’s fiction preferred- our young people are aged 12-13 so the story must contain age-appropriate grammar and vocabulary.

Availability:
This is flexible, we will arrange a work plan with you when you accept the job. Start date from Monday 12th June 2017and be available until Friday 15th September.
