Class teacher – The core purpose the class teacher is to work within the framework and the aims of Countess Anne School’s vision, curriculum principles and development plans.
Job Description – Class teacher: General responsibilities:
Teaching: 1) Set and maintain high standards in all areas of the curriculum and behaviour and develop good professional relationships with children and their parents.
2) To teach, according to their educational needs, the pupils assigned to you, taking in to consideration school policies, and curriculum requirements and Early Years Goals.
3) Prepare, review and evaluate forward planning in all areas of the curriculum.
4) Continually review work and activities carried out by the children to ensure it is appropriate to their level of development and use this for future planning.
5) Ensure feedback to children on work is carried out.
6) To implement rewards and sanctions within the school policies and procedures.
7) Keep concise records of any assessments carried out on individual children and ensure that records of progress and achievements are regularly updated. 8) Complete annual/termly school reports. 9) Create a stimulating school environment including the classroom using a variety of displays which enhance the environment of the class and supports the teaching, learning and achievements of the class.
10)Develop close links between home and school ensuring parental involvement in their child’s development and learning.
School Review and Development: (After successful completion of N.Q.T year and dependent on experience.)
1) Take responsibility for the co-ordination of designated areas of the curriculum within the school. (Please see subject leader job description). General:
1) Communicate effectively with children, staff, parents, governors, outside agencies and visitors to the school.
2) Take responsibility for one’s own development as teacher, participating in performance management procedures, attend training courses and help develop school base INSET.
3) To receive appropriate professional support from the Head Teacher and senior teachers.
4) Demonstrate a willingness to participate in the life of the school, its aims, its visions and values. This would include an expectation to attend concerts, sports events and fetes which may occur outside of school hours.
5) The post holder should be aware that the school operates within a framework of Equal Opportunities for all the pupils and personnel at Countess Anne Church of England Primary School.
6) The post holder should be aware of his or her responsibilities and be familiar with the school’s policy and procedures with regards to Child Protection.
Performance Management: You are responsible for arranging to meet with your line manager - the Deputy Head Teacher in accordance with the school’s performance management policy. The job description is to be reviewed at the end of the Academic year or earlier if necessary. In addition, it may be amended at any time after consultation with yourself.
