Salvete Discipuli!

Salvete Discipuli!

I hope that you had a wonderful summer, and that you are as excited as I am to begin a new school year. It is always my sincere hope that you find Latin class to be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. In order for you to have the most success in Latin, it is important for you to consistently fulfill five expectations.

1. Be On Time – Please be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings. 2. Be Quiet When Others Are Speaking – Please show respect for those participating in discussion, (both your classmates and myself). 3. Raise Your Hand and Wait to be Recognized – Help me to acknowledge all students wishing to participate. 4. Use Appropriate Language – Please do not insult your classmates, yourself, or me with speech that is unsuitable for the classroom. 5. Keep Your Hands and Feet to Yourself – Please do not touch other people or their property.

Your learning is my main concern, and I promise to do all that I can in order for you to be successful. In return, it is essential for you to meet the aforementioned expectations, so as to create an environment where students will best be able to learn, and where I will best be able to teach. Should you have a problem meeting my expectations, one or more of the following may occur in order to rectify the situation: 1. Teacher conference with student 2. Teacher phone call home to parents/guardians 3. Teacher/student/administrator conference 4. Referral 5. Detention Grades: Grades will be calculated using total points accrued during the semester. Students will receive points for tests, quizzes, projects, class-work, homework, and Civitas, (approximately 200 points/quarter, and includes behavior, participation, etc.). Nota Bene! I do not accept late homework without a valid excuse – absence, family emergency, etc. However, arrangements may be made with me to make up missed assignments after school for partial credit. Absences: Students are expected to make up all work missed during an absence. Students will have one week from their absence to complete and hand in missing assignments for full credit. This work may be found in the In Absentia file in our classroom. Students will have one week to make up a test or quiz missed due to an absence. These tests will be in the TLC, and students may get a pass from me to take the assessment during a study hall, lunch, after school, etc. Tests and quizzes will not be handed back until all students have taken them. Materials: 1 three-ring binder 1 pack of 5 dividers paper writing utensil Latin-English Dictionary – optional, but advised Please bring binders to class daily! Please feel free to speak to me about any questions or concerns that you may have now or at any time during the school year. Let me know if there is anything specific that I can do to aid in your learning experience. I hope you have a wonderful year! Bona Fortuna!
