President’s Inauguration – Shaik Ismail Shaik reported the ceremony is set for Friday, March 2nd, with a week-long celebration preceding that day. During that week, the focus will be on programs and presentations that showcase the academic strengths of the college. The Committee is also working on the exact wording of a theme. The President would like the theme to focus on concepts that touch upon internationalization/globalization. Hence, some of the presentations, panel discussions and programs will dovetail this general theme. A focus on "global health" will augment the all- campus book, Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder (who is scheduled to give a public talk on March 1st). Other foci might include "environmental awareness" (specifically, the issue of global warming which is highlighted in the new Al Gore movie), "preparing students for a global economy/polity." All administrators are encouraged to send ideas to the Co-Chairs and to participate fully in the inaugural celebration.
