Twenty Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time s6

THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD AUGUST 6, 2017

ICON - Beginning Monday, July 24th through August 14th, St. Ann's Church will be hosting the Holy Family icon, sponsored by the Msgr. Dewson Council of the Knights of Columbus as part of their national and diocesan efforts to pray for and strengthen Catholic families. The icon has been blessed by Pope Francis and, during the parish's upcoming novena, will be displayed below the statue of our Lady. Visit the Knights of Columbus website for more information and prayers.

2018 Mass Intentions - We are now accepting Mass requests for the calendar year 2018. Since the earliest days, Holy Mass has been offered for the dead. Our prayers, but especially Holy Mass, assist those who have passed on attain heaven. Also since its earliest days, the Church has offered Mass for the intentions of the living, especially the sick. Many of you ask for Masses to be said regularly for deceased loved ones, and some ask that these Masses be offered on specific dates. Your special requests will be honored to the extent possible and we do our best to accommodate you, but we ask for your patience and understanding in this regard. Scheduling begins in late October so it is important that requests be received by October 16, 2017. If you would like to be informed of the dates and times of your scheduled Masses, please include a self- addressed stamped envelope, a phone number or an email address so that we can contact you. Thank you and God bless you. There are some openings between now and the end of year if you are wanting to schedule Mass Intentions for your loved ones. The recommended stipend per mass is $10.00. To check availability, email the rectory office at [email protected] or call 654-5519.

Year to date (fiscal year started in July 2016) actuals were $617,206 which was $17,206 over budget. The same time frame in 2016 - actual totals were $594,141. As always, thank you for your contributions to St. Ann’s Church.

Feed My Lambs, Feed My Sheep Food Collection Expanded - The Food Collections in Saint Ann are normally for Thanksgiving and during Lent. Someone has been leaving bags of food just about every week since Lent of this year. The Knights have taken the food to Saint Paul Parish "Feed the Hungry" Food Bank. The Lord might be reminding us that those less fortunate need to eat all year round. Thus, a Knights of Columbus bin will be placed in the Vestibule of our church for anyone who may wish to donate food at any time. The Monsignor John DEWSON Council 13821, Knights of Columbus, will collect the donated food weekly and take the food to Saint Paul Church "Feed the Hungry" Food Bank. The Food Collection at Thanksgiving and during Lent will continue with special emphasis.

Collection for The Cathedral – The Cathedral of Saint Peter is in need of our help. The weekend of August 19 & 20, a special collection for the maintenance and preservation of the Cathedral of Saint Peter will be taken up in all parishes in our diocese. Please be as generous as you can. For more information about the Cathedral, please visit the Cathedral’s website at www.cathedralofstpeter.com. For a video tour of the Cathedral, special video message from Father Klein the Cathedral’s Administrator, and a tour of the Cathedral’s 99 year-old organ, visit the diocesan website at www.cdow.org. Together, we can help assure that our Cathedral will remain a place of beauty and prayer for generations to come.

To Everyone at St. Ann's - I can't begin to adequately thank all of you for your kindness and support during my assignment at St. Ann's. My time at the parish will always be remembered with great fondness and warmth, and not only will everyone be remembered in my prayers, but everyone will also be remembered in prayer at the National Shrine of St. John Neumann in Philadelphia, where, as a sign of my appreciation, I have enrolled the entire parish perpetually in the St. John Neumann Guild. The spiritual benefits include remembrance in 50 Masses offered every year at the Shrine. The exact wording I submitted was "The parishioners, priests, staff, employees, students, teachers, and families of St. Ann Church and school in Wilmington, DE, living and deceased, past, present, and future."
