Mrs. Worth Room 418 [email protected] 940-665-0961 ext. 332

Welcome to Algebra I We will be learning new concepts that require real effort. Be prepared – you WILL have an assignment every day. Do not get behind. If you don’t understand something that we are working on, it is your responsibility to get help to figure it out as quickly as possible. Do not wait until the day of the test, end of the six weeks, or year to get help.

Objectives The student will learn to think critically and analytically. The student will learn how to apply mathematics to real world applications. The student will gain a greater understanding of algebraic concepts needed for future mathematics work.

Student Expectations Follow teacher instructions Bring required materials to class Be on time Be Respectful Be Responsible Work until you are released by the teacher

Supplies Required: 3 ring binder – with 5 dividers (2 inches or bigger) Notebook paper – do not turn in paper torn out of a spiral Calculator – you will need to check out a TI-84 out from the library or you may purchase your own Pencils – you will NOT be allowed to work in pen. ALL bell-ringers, homework, quizzes, tests will be done in pencil.(using pen will result in points taken from your grade) 1 Box of Kleenex

Requested, not required, for the Room: Chisel Tip Expo Markers, Package of Copy Paper, Glue Sticks

Textbook We will have a classroom set of textbooks. You will have access to an online version of the textbook or there is a limited number of text books you can check out from the library.

Binder In order to be successful, you will need to keep up with your notes, assignments, and returned papers. Do NOT throw any papers away. Therefore, I will be expecting you to keep your binder neat and follow all rules. Each six weeks, you will receive a binder grade. You will be graded on the following (papers must be in order or you will lose points):  Syllabus (this paper – no extra copies will be given)  Assignment Sheet – listing all the assignments (written weekly on the white board, you must copy this down)  Bell-Ringers – all bell-ringer assignments; ordered by date  Class Notes (labeled correctly) – class notes will be taken almost every day, most will be handouts  Homework – all homework handed back to you after being graded; ordered by date  Test/Quiz – all tests/quizzes handed back to you after being graded; ordered by date

Bell Ringers Everyday when you walk into class, there will be a bell-ringer assignment on the board. This assignment must be started on or before the bell rings. You will have 2 – 5 minutes to complete the bell-ringer while I take roll and complete other duties. Bell-ringers will be collected for part of your binder grade. You may also have short quizzes based on bell ringers.

Homework/Classwork All students are expected to complete homework and classwork on the day it is assigned. Incomplete assignments will NOT be accepted. All assignments are due at the beginning of class, unless specified by the teacher. Homework papers will have the opportunity for re-grading or grade improvement, as provided by CISD policy. Points will be deducted if the student forgets to put the proper heading on their paper. There will be extra credit opportunities offered each six weeks. Math is not all about answers. It is about the process.  Show your work on ALL problems. If you do not show your work, you will not receive credit for that problem.  Write legibly. If I cannot read your handwriting, it will be marked wrong. If I cannot find your answer, it will be wrong.

Homework is an essential part of the learning process. Homework is intended to help the student practice what was learned that day in class. If you do not turn in your homework on time, you will be given SWIM Camp.  If homework is not turned in on time during class, you will automatically get 10 points taken off per day late.  If homework is completed at SWIM Camp, you will automatically get at least 20 points taken off.  If homework is completed in ISS or Wildcat U due to missing SWIM Camp or any other reason, you will automatically get 30 points taken off.

Tests Formal tests are given throughout the six weeks to evaluate if students are learning the concepts being taught. Tests MUST be completed in the allotted class time unless IEP states otherwise. There will be opportunities to improve test grades given for students who make below a 70, based on CISD policy if:  Students attend at least one tutoring session.  Students complete the specific requirements on time.

Cheating Cheating will not be tolerated in this class. If I think that you are cheating: 1st offense: you will redo a different paper for the maximum grade of a 50. 2nd offense: you will receive a zero in the gradebook. 3rd offense: you will receive a zero in the gradebook and a discipline referral.

Procedures  School policy will be followed regarding cell phones/electronic devices. In addition, each student will put away their device daily. Each student will have an assigned cubby to put their phone in as they enter the room. Failure to put the phone away will result in detention after school and/or other disciplinary action deemed necessary.  Turn in homework then begin quietly working in your seat working on your bell-ringer.  Take notes daily during lesson instruction and be active in the discussion.  Do your homework/classwork.  Study for all tests.  Attend tutoring before or after school if you fall behind. If I am not available for tutorials on a certain day, there is always a high school tutor, Mr. Maddux, and a junior high tutor, Mr. Shelton. They may also attend tutoring with another math teacher IF I am not available.  Come to class ready to learn every day and have a positive attitude.  Due to previous years of putting gum under desks, there will be no gum chewing in class. First warning – spit out. Second warning – detention.  Grading - For Algebra 1: 50 daily and or homework)/50 tests, quizzes, projects For Algebra 1PAP: 30 daily and or homework/70 tests, quizzes, projects
